Have you ever botched up a cake or pie so badly that you HAD to just throw the whole thing away and not think about it because analyzing your mistake would prove you to be ... an idiot!
The worst part is waiting so long (baking) -- to see and taste your disaster.

I don't bake, but I make a mean cupcake. I wanted to make some for my last chemo treatment in 2015. I was so excited. Everything had to be perfect. Cost me a bundle in supplies. I got everything out and made them. I'm not exactly sure what went wrong. I did the same thing I've done many times before, but something went terribly wrong. I was so upset, I threw out the cupcakes and unused supplies. I went to Panera Bread and got bagels instead. Haven't tried since.

I grabbed the wrong flour canister, and tried to make a pie crust with bread flour. The texture was all wrong and impossible to use. I felt so foolish.

Too many times to count!
The last time was at Christmas a few years ago. I was 100% pressed for time, so resorted to making a 'dump cake'....something I'd never tried before. I don't even like the name of them!
It went straight from the oven to the trash. Awful!
No offense to folks who like them. Maybe it's just me. ![]()

my sister and I botched up a cake as little girls ( wish I could remember our ages). While my aunt and uncle were napping we proceed to make a cake. This was when everything was made by scratch. We made two big mistakes: we used 1/2 cu salt instead of 1/2 tsp and used granulated sugar for the icing instead of confectionery sugar. We knew something was wrong when the cake was 1" high and then the icing ran all over the place. One of those precious memories.

I think that everyone who bakes has had at least one failure. I taking baking classes and hear the instructors tell stories about things that failed when they baked at home. If they make mistakes, then anyone can.

I have made fudge a few times that would not set up and harden. It stayed too soft and runny even though I used a candy thermometer.
I never had to throw it away. My DH ate it with a spoon.
A couple of year ago, I made a cheery pie from the cherries picked from my yard. During baking all of the liquid oozed out from between the crust and made a big mess in my oven. When the pie was done, the cherries were all there, but there was no filling with them. My DH ate it anyway, but it was as flat as a pancake and dry.
i have made both items hundreds of times with no problems... sometimes things just go wrong. I don’t worry about it.

My first pan of Pecan Shortbread Bars went terribly awry. All that butter and pecans wasted!
