Re: Boston Cream Pie from ATK

@KingstonsMom

have you ever tried Vanilla Paste?

I began seeing it on cooking or competition shows - began seeing it a few yrs ago

saw a bottle of Nielsen Masey extract and paste at Home Goods

bought them both

I was buying McCormick pure extract - never made my own or use vanilla beans

the paste gives it an extra umph - I bought 2 more bottles when I saw it again at HG

definitely use the paste in creams

Just thought I'd share my favorite recipe for baked custard, It was contributed by @Britbrit13  many years ago and is the Mother's recipe.

The only change when I make it, is that I bake it in ramekins instead of one large baking dish.

This recipe is so delicious!

Custard by Britbrit13

Enjoy, This is my Mothers recipe!!! Brittany

4 cups milk
6 eggs beaten
½ cup sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
1 to 2 teaspoons vanilla
¼ teaspoon nutmeg

Add sugar & salt to milk
Blend in beaten eggs; add vanilla & nutmeg; blend thoroughly.
Cook 1 hour @ 325 degrees in a pan of hot water. Enjoy!
I use a 3-qt oval baking dish with this..and I watch it; sometimes it's not an hour

thank you posting @KingstonsMom

it reads delish - that makes sense, right?

also thank you @Britbrit13 for sharing her mom's recipe

Re: Boston Cream Pie from ATK

While mine is not 'paste', I've been buying a 100% vanilla which is thick and you can easily see the vanilla beans in it, for years now!

Sometimes I buy the beans and make my own, so I can control the vanilla taste.

I haven't seen vanilla paste, but of course I wasn't looking for it, LOL!

But I'll definitely look for it now, thanks for the heads up !

It reads as good as it tastes!

And I loveall  recipes passed from Grandmas, Moms, etc.

In my opinion, that's the definition of a 'tried and true' recipe!
