A friend sent me this recipe. She said she got it on the internet site, Ohbiteit.com. Sounds really good to me.

Bacon Crack

1 container Pillsbury Crescent Dough Sheet or regular Crescent Dough
1 lb. bacon, prepared semi-crispy
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup maple syrup, amount will vary
1 pinch cayenne pepper, optional

Lay out the dough; spred out thinly, on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. With a fork, gently poke shallow holes throughout the dough.
Top the dough with a thin layer of maple syrup and all of the crispy bacon. (Use a pastry brush to get a thin layer.) Now, add another thin layer of the syrup onto the bacon and cover it with all of the brown sugar/cayenne pepper mixed.
Bake at 325 degrees for about 25 minutes or until evenly golden.
Peek in on it now and then so it feels loved. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}
Let cool for at least 15 minutes, it will crisp up as it cools.
Now, get to cracking that sweet slab of succulent satisfaction. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}
Use a knife to gently cut it into pieces.
Plate the pieces up and pass it around! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup} You will love it

If this doesn't sound different! It first made me think it was one of Paula Deen's recipes. You know her and her bacon! Truly though, it sounds yummy and I will have to make it. Thanks for posting this.

Question: do you need to use real real maple syrup on it or ccan you use something like Mrs. Butterworths?

My SIL made this for a family gathering and it disappeared. It is so different and tasty and totally addictive. It is unforgetable.

Thanks sue-p

AnneMary, I, too, wondered if I could use maple syrup like I use on waffles. I am not sure but I think real maple syrup would be best. I guess we just need to try and see what happens. You are not supposed to soak it with syrup, tho. Just a light brushing with your pastry brush to give it a maple flavor and help brown it.

DiAnne, Just the thought of how delicious this is makes me weak. I really should not make this until we have enough people here to finish it off!

TrishTX, Thanks for letting us know that you have tried it and found it as terrific as we think it will be.

How could bacon not feel loved?? Bacon is probably quite full of itself with all of the rave reviews it gets.

Does anyone else think that "bacon crack" sounds like some sort of insult?

"There goes 'ole bacon crack, that greasy, stinky loser!!" {#emotions_dlg.lol}

...or perhaps it would be a good name for a type of crack that crackheads find irresistible???

I honestly can't see a reason that you would have to use real maple syrup...I think whatever you prefer would be just fine.

If you plan to make this, you may want to visit the original site and view the comments from people who made it. There is also a video that may be helpful.

Just an FYI:

When looking for the 'Pillsbury Crescent Dough Sheet', it's actually called 'Pillsbury Recipe Creations Seamless Dough Sheets'. Not all stores carry it all the time. If you plan to do a request at your supermarket, they can look it up under Pillsbury Recipe Creations to place the order.

Our local Publix doesn't carry it, but they do requests and get it in for me. They will also give me the sale price when it comes in, and with double coupons it's quite reasonable

BJ's carries it in a 4 pack, and lets you use 4 Pillsbury coupons.

For this recipe, I often use either frozen phyllo dough or puffed pastry sheets. While you CAN use plastic maple syrup, go for grade B (dark) maple syrup, instead of grade A light amber. I buy at TJs. You'll find that REAL maple syrup tastes far better than any of the maple flavored corn syrups or so called pancake syrups. (Same thing goes when making Pig Candy).

Works MUCH easier if you put the syrup in a squeeze bottle with small tip, especially when trying to get the syrup on top of the bacon pieces. I like the ones designed for hair coloring, as they always have a small tip and have a top to cover. Syrup will also 'flow' better if you nuke for a VERY short time to make it more liquid.

Also found that 'brownulated' sugar works easier to get even coating when making these or Pig Candy.
