I have made this several times, its DELICIOUS!!!

I always make more topping.. and usually make 1 1/2 of the sauce.

BREAD PUDDING
2 c whole milk
1/4 c butter, softened
1/3 c sugar
3 eggs
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
3 c bread, tore into pieces (any bread, although french bread or raisin bread is great)
1/4 c raisins
SAUCE
1 c whole milk
2 Tbsp butter, softened
1/3 c sugar
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 Tbsp flour
dash(es) salt

Directions

1. In a saucepan, over medium heat, heat milk. Add butter. Stir constantly until butter is melted. Set aside.
2. In a separate container, combine sugar, eggs, cinnamon and vanilla. Slowly add milk mixture. Set aside.
3. Place torn pieces of bread in a casserole dish.
4. Pour batter on top of bread. Sprinkle raisins.
5. Bake at 350F for 45 to 50 minutes or until set.
6. SAUCE: Mix everything together in a saucepan and bring to a boil stirring constantly. Set aside for a few minutes and then pour on warm bread pudding.

Using Panettone (Italian fruited bread) is also good.

I don't measure exact amounts when I make bread pudding but I make it pretty much the way you do--I do like a heavier bread like French Bread or one of the artisan breads, and I add nutmeg along with the cinnamon, then sprinkle just a little nutmeg on top before baking (a little goes a long way). But I've wanted a vanilla sauce recipe to go with it, and I think this is just what I've been looking for. Thanks for sharing it!{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I think I'd add a little liquor, maybe Amaretto, in place of milk in the sauce.

Bread pudding is a favorite of mine. Thanks for the recipe; will give it a try.

I've learned that you can tweak bread pudding with additions of whatever you like. I've added sliced bananas, diced apple or peach, chocolate chips, dried cherries or cranberries, coconut, pecans (not all at once, of course).

Respect I always add grand Marnier to my sauce, I also make my own vanilla out of spiced rum!! I also like a more fluffy pudding so I add more egg filling and extra sauce!! Delicious!! Britt
