While  shopping at Trader Joe's today, I spotted this in a small container on a shelf. Never having seen this, I checked it out on the internet. Apparently, it is white garlic aged by slowly warming it for an extended  time. It changes the flavor and takes on a sweetish taste among other flavors. It can be added to soups and pasta among other dishes.

I am wondering if anyone here has used it and what did you think about it? Trader Joe's has so many amazingly different items.

@Flatbush ,

Black garlic is delicious! It's very popular in Japan (Asia) and used in many different dishes. It is sold as a paste, solid pieces, cured in oil, and as black garlic oil.

Easy to buy in Japan, but, so far, mostly found as an add-in at our local ramen restaurants. I haven't tried any from Trader Joe's since we don't have any where I live.
If it is made in Japan, then it should be of high quality as the Japanese take great care & effort to produce it.

Black garlic adds a savory umami flavor to food. You can put it into any food that regular garlic can go into. I like it in ramen, tofu, with natto, on pizza, and even in my eggs!

Enjoy if you decide to try it.

They seem to be using this on a lot of the cooking and baking shows!  I think it seems a bit weird to use it in baking but they claim if used appropriately, it's really good!

Thank you for the responses. I think I might try some, and see what it tastes like. I probably would use it in soup.
