Good smoked meat, with or without sauce and perhaps a bun.  And a side?  The little scraps of smoked meat.

If I had to have a side, then green cabbage slaw with an oil and vinegar dressing; or red cabbage slaw with sriracha on it.  Cabbage shredded really thin please. Or corn on the cob without unnecessary stuff like spices and such on it.

I would have potato or pasta salad, deviled eggs, slaw, baked beans/corn, and fried okra.

Homemade ice cream, homemade banana pudding, or ice cream over a brownie.

I won't repeat what have already been listed, but two other things that are my go-to's:

First, if I need more sides, I just love a couple cans of cold pickled beets ... a good option for those who are lazy or just out of time.  The tangy-ness of pickled beets is always a surprising hit.  I always have at least one can in the fridge, just in case another vegetable is needed.

If you haven't already tried this:

Instead of butter (or in addition to) have some whipped cream cheese to spread over hot ears of corn.  Sound silly?  Actually, what it gives you is hot creamed corn.  Personally, I like the onion-chive flavor, but even plain is great.  Really tasty!

One of my favorites is the Cucumber Onion Salad w/ Dill.

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit, but Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad.
