We are having a brunch tomorrow for a friends milestone birthday and this is my contribution. Tried and true brunch favorite.

1 loaf French or Italian crusty bread
3 eggs, beaten
1 t vanilla extract
1 T Grand Marnier liqueur
3/4 t orange zest
pinch of nutmeg
3 T cream
2 bananas, peeled and sliced
3 T butter
powdered sugar

Slice the bread into 1 inch thick slices. Cut into each slice halfway through the middle but not all the way through to create a pocket.

Beat eggs in a bowl. Add vanilla, milk, Grand Marnier, nutmeg and orange zest. Insert three banana slices (or more if they will fit) into each pocket in the bread slices. Dip each bread slice into egg mixture to soak.

Melt butter in fry pan. Fry until browned on both sides. Remove from pan and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with warm maple syrup.
