This is my mother's recipe except she used crushed saltine crackers and a splash of milk.  Excellent.

I use the Ann Landers meatloaf recipe, its main feature is an envelope of Lipton's Onion Soup, used with two pounds of lower fat ground round or ground sirloin.  I saute onions and green peppers or just steam them in the microwave for two minutes each in a gass measuring cup. I also use Panko bread crumbs and milk, but never knew it was called a panade.  The only thing I don't do is use anything sweet, no ketchup, no brown sugar.  We just didn't like it that way.  I love threads like this, it gives new variations to experiment with.

I make darn good meatloaf---i put an egg in as well as a little milk for moistness,  along with the other things--i think the best thing is not to over mix it and then pack it down in the pan. I usually use my mixer to mix it all up; just enough to get all the stuff together.

this last time i put some catsup, teriyaki sauce and then a few shots of Siracha on top---oh was it good hot, but the sammies were outstanding the next day

Interesting that so many use only beef, no other meat.

@Tinkrbl44   I made a so delicious ground turkey meatloaf that I couldn't stop eating it, but DH was put off by the color which was light, instead of the dark beef type.  I use ground turkey for most dishes requiring ground meat, costco sells a four pack of two pounds each, so I freeze it until I am ready to use it.

Question ...... does everyone bake theirs in a loaf pan?  I suddenly recall my grandmother once making hers in a large pie pan and cut the servings in pie-shaped triangles.

I think she did it to save time since a loaf pan would take longer.

@Tinkrbl44   I shape mine which is usually very large, on a baking pan.  I have never used oats in a meatloaf.  My very first meatloaf had saltine crackers, but thereafter, I use panko.

What are you talking about?  I googled "sammies" and it said it's a girl's name ... and an annual award given by the British sandwich association.

@Tinkrbl44  Rachael Ray calls sandwiches sammies. I'm sure many others do to. I guess they don't where you are.
