Take 2 slices of good soft, thick whole wheat bread and add mayo on both. Slice a ripe avocado and place on one slice.Add some thick slices of yummy ripe heirloom tomatoes and then a nice layer of alfalfa sprouts. Put it all together and enjoy the bestest sandwicjh ever!

This is my favorite sandwich of all time.  First ate it when I lived in CA in the late 70s.  I make mine a little different.  I use a ww pita spread with cream cheese instead of mayo  It's a little harder to find alfalfa sprouts now.  I can get them in Wegmans.

I have never ate an avocado. What does it taste like? I know you make Guacamole with it. I used to work at a restaurant that had it. My mother loved it.

@grandma2pkmhAvocadoes are a fine source of fat for our diet, but they're also caloric and not that terribly good for us that I'd force myself to eat them if I didn't like them.  Just get your fats from oher good-for-you sources.

Hi @millieshops

Avocados are incredibly good for us.

For anyone interested, here's an article listing 12 health benefits of avocados:

Avocados have always been a part of my life.  My mother used to make avocado sandwiches for me when I was a child.

Just put a few slices on toast and mash them a bit with the back of a fork.  Add whatever you like.

As I mentioned on another line, I eat a veg sandwich twice a week, at least.  Avocado, hummus, tomato, cilantro or greens and shredded carrots.  Sometimes a slice of cheese if I think I'm not getting enough protein.

I was practically weaned on avocados, but they have to be Haas, the creamiest most flavorful.  Eaten alone, on sandwiches, as guacomole, halved with a dressing in the center,  in salads, and on and on.

@Noel7 I certainly wouldn't argue against  the benefits of avocado, but if I didn't like them I'd find other ways to eat healthy foods.  That's all I meant in my previous post.

Never had one until after college.  And then it was love.  On sandwiches, in soup, good guacamole, salad, and plain.  Made a salad today with it--tomato, cucs, corn, chick peas, green onion, salt, pepper and avocado with a red wine vineagr dressing.  Going to have it with Salmon.

Avocados grow in Florida so we always had them to eat.  I love them in any salad or on any sandwich.  They make a delicacy of a BLT!

Add to any taco or tex mex dish.  Guacamole salad with letture tomato and onion added is wonderful!

In the Summer, stuff half an avocado with any salad, seafood salads are very good with them.
