/>

I found this recipe a few years ago posted on the Taste of Home board by salsarose. I had everything in the house to make it and it would accomplish what I wanted to do...find a new home for that fruit in the refrigerator.

<span style=This goes together in a snap. I did tweak the recipe just a bit. We love spices so I added cinnamon to both the topping and the filling. I also added a few more spices and some vanilla to the fruit to bump up the flavor.

The aroma that filled the house when this was baking was intoxicating....we could hardly wait for that timer to go off.

Oh my goodness....is this crisp ever delicious! There are so many levels of flavor going on. I used Bartlett pears and Granny Smith apples.....the tartness of the apples blends so well with the sweetness of the pears. The crystallized ginger adds a wonderful layer of flavor and the lemon juice and zest enhances the flavors of the fruit. The oatmeal gives the topping a slight crunch...Bob said it almost takes like an oatmeal cookie on top of fruit.

I served this with a dollop of whipped cream, but I think a little scoop of vanilla ice cream would be equally as good.

This is a wonderful fall recipe-perfect for those fresh picked apples and pears. It's a winner in this house for sure.
