This is my recipe for apple crisp. I bake it in a 9x13" pan. If I have them I use a mixture of at least 2 or 3 kinds of apples. We love this recipe at our house no matter what option I use.

8 cups sliced apples (McIntosh, Cortland, etc.)

1 teas. salt in ½ cup water

sprinkle apples with water, cinnamon & nutmeg

Blend:

2 cups sugar (less if desired) **

1/3 cup liquid shortening (vegetable oil)

Spread mixture over apples. Sprinkle more cinnamon on top if desired. Bake apx. 35-45 min. at 350 degrees.

Options:

  • * ¾ cup flour, ¾ cup oatmeal
  • ** 1 ½ cups brown and ½ cup white sugar
  • ** Or, 1 ½ cups white and ½ cup brown sugar
  • Add 1 egg, if desired
