Re: Another Ingredient Discontinued: Kitchen Bouquet

I use whichever one I can find when I need it.  I don't see much difference.

Re: Another Ingredient Discontinued: Kitchen Bouquet

Oh no!  I'm so tired of tried and true things disappearing.  My mother used Kitchen Bouquet and now I use it too.  I bought a bottle not that long ago, so I'll look to see if there are any bottles left on the shelf next time I go to the grocery.

@spumoni99It's a different taste from Worcestershire sauce, so you wouldn't be able to substitute one for the other.

@On It  Looks like it's on Walmart, too, much cheaper. Only a few left.

Re: Another Ingredient Discontinued: Kitchen Bouquet

Found this recipe online that may work.

It didn't specify how much beef base but one poster added this. Suggestion is to start with amount specified for one cup, then taste and adjust. Another said they used 3 bouillon cubes.

Maybe Better Than Bouillon Seasoned Vegetable Base.

Browning Sauce

1⁄2 cup sugar

cup hot water

beef base

Be careful while preparing this as it may sputter.

Add the sugar to a saucepan and heat on a low or medium-low heat until browned, about 5-10 minutes. When the mixture starts to get dark, take it off the heat and carefully add the water (this may sputter and you don't want to get burned).

Add the beef soup base and put back on a low heat, stirring until the water is all mixed inches

Cool and store in a disposable container.

Use a spoonful or two when making gravies, stews, sauces, meatloavs, meatballs, etc.

I saw a photo on a search I had done that was sponsored. It was from Walmart, so I opened and it took me to the Walmart website. I put the Kitchen Bouquet into my cart, and then I logged in to get it in my cart. I added another item, looked ar the cart, and the Kitchen Bouquet said Not Available. It seems some areas have it and others do not. This must be a recent development.

Thank you for your help. I do think it is disappearing nationwide in the small size.

You might try Maggi; I think it is similar.

Re: Another Ingredient Discontinued: Kitchen Bouquet

Did a quick Google search. Kitchen Bouquet is out of stock for shipping at Walmart in the 4 oz bottle but seems to be in stock at the stores near me. Google also shows it in stock at Kroger and a search shows it in stock at the regional super market chains near me in the St Louis area. There are two websites for Hidden Valley products. One is for food service customers and the other is for home use. The home use page still shows Kitchen Bouquet and has recipes using it.

Thank you for explaining the two Hidden Valley sites. I went to the consumer one a few minutes ago and tapped the online purchase choice. It took me to Walmart's site which said Out of Stock. This is confusing.

Don't worry.  My mom never used it, and I have never used it and we get really nicely browned tasty gravies and sauces without it.  As the world turns now isn't it?  Woman Frustrated
