Re: Alternatives to 'cookies' on Cookie Day?

@sarahpanda   My BlueJean Chef email was a recipe for "cookie" bars that were very simple. Chocolate chip cookie dough and brownie mix.  Her recipe was for an Air Fryer but could easily be adapted to a pan in the oven.

Chex Mix or puppy chow.  My grandkids always expect carmelized corn pops.  The recipe is on the back of the pkg.

Re: Alternatives to 'cookies' on Cookie Day?

So, is the burnout about the sugar (you don't want to do more sugar?), or is it about just wanting something different than the usual cookies?

I do a 'No Bake Cookie' recipe that I love.  It's kind of like a candy/cookie type deal made of chocolate, peanut butter, oats, the usual sugar and vanilla, and I like to add raisins to mine (YMMV).

They are so tasty and, in my case so I don't make them all the time, addictive!

I can post the recipe I use if you are interested.  Smiley Happy

Dog cookies

Our family does the same sort of thing and then we have a big cookie party.  I make human cookies too, but the dog cookies are the hit of the party!

Chow Mein Noodle Cookies

1  5 oz can Chow Mein noodles

3 cups butterscotch chips (or chocolate chip)

1 cup peanuts (optional)

Melt chips in medium saucepan stirring constantly.  Stir in noodles and nuts.  Drop by teaspoon onto foil to cool.

Easy and tasty.

I just baked pie pastry scraps from the apple pie I made, sprinkled a bit of sugar on them and cinnamon.  Poked holes in them with a fork and wow, delicious and not too sweet.  Really good with fresh coffee....

Next time I'll plan on more of them!

Or OP could make Apple Pie Fries with a pie crust and applesauce.

Total Prep/Cook Time: 30 min.    Servings: 6

Source: Cooktop Cove

Ingredients
1 package ready-made pie crusts, such as Pillsbury
2 TBS flour, for dusting
1 cup applesauce***
3 TBS caramel sauce, plus more for drizzling
1 egg
1/4 cup white sugar
1 TBS cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg

(***I mix in a bit of Wayzata Apple Pie Spice, THE BEST in the world, with the applesauce;  the Wayzata, MN company only sells to retail but I order it from Creative Kitchen in Fargo, ND.  I wish QVC would strike up a deal with them!!)

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

2. Sprinkle the flour onto a work surface.  Unroll one pie crust onto the flour.

3. Spoon the applesauce onto the pie crust, using a spatula to smooth it out in an even layer all over the crust.

4. Drizzle 3 TBS caramel sauce over the applesauce.

5. Lay the second ready-made pie crust over the top.

6. Cut the pie into long, thin fry shapes with a sharp knife or pizza cutter.

7. Transfer the fries to a greased baking sheet. Lightly beat the egg with about 2 TBS water, and brush the egg wash over each individual fry

8. Combine the white sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Sprinkle this mixture generously over the fries.

9. Bake fries in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, until they are crisp and cooked through.

10. Remove from oven. Drizzle a bit more caramel sauce over the top,if desired.

Maybe some type of savory snack or cracker and put them in little baggies?  chex mix, spiced nuts, seasoned oyster crackers (I think with ranch dip mix?)
