Tried these today and liked 'em. They're kind of like thumbprints (same ingredients, sort of), but not as fussy. I'm thinking you could roll them in crushed nuts, too, while you're rolling them out.

Split Seconds

Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.

Sift together: 2 cups flour; ½ teaspoon baking powder and 2/3 cup sugar into mixing bowl.

Blend in : ¾ cup soft butter, 1 unbeaten egg and 2 teaspoons Vanilla to form a dough.

Place on lightly floured pastry board. Divide into four parts; shape each into a roll, 13 inches long and ¾ inch thick. Place on ungreased baking sheets, 4 inches apart and 2 inches from edge of sheet.

Make a depression, ¼ inch deep, lengthwise down center of each with knife handle. Fill depressions with red jelly or jam, about 1/3 cup in all.

Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) 15 to 20 minutes until light golden brown. While warm, cut diagonally into bars. Cool on wire rack. (I always sprinkle powdered sugar on top).
