I've been asked to bring a dish to share at a weekend reunion.  We will travel a minimum of 6 hours in the heat to a bit of a remote location (no large grocery stores in the area).  All that I can think of is cookies or dinner rolls/croissants.  Any ideas would really be appreciated.

@mac116Maybe have something delivered like a bill to ship to.  May be worth not having to worry of maintaining a dish for 6 hours.

Something simple considering how far you have to travel.

Check out the recipe here for Key Lime Pie Balls.  They sure sound good and fairly easy to make.  Refrigerate and then pack in cooler for trip. Easy to transport.  They would definitely be something different.  Any cold salad, vegetable or fruit dish...also easy and good as well as easy to keep cold.

* only small cooler needed and put in disposable container

Where did you post the Key Lime Balls recipe?   I'm not seeing it here.  TIA

How about 2 or 3 dozen Dunkin donuts. If you belong to a big box store they would carry fresh baked cookies conviently packaged or even fruit pies.

@Tinkrbl44 .... and everyone....see recipe I just pulled forward.  It was originally posted last December.  FYI ... I found it again by typing in Key Lime Pie Balls in the little search bar..."search forums and blogs".  Now I need to make these soon! 😋

I am in the same situation, so I think I will make a pasta- veggie mix with a homemade pesto sauce. That should hold up fine, even unrefridgerated, and be yummy! Or any pasta - veggie mix with avinigrette. Just suggestions!  Have fun!

@Skyegirl21 Six hours in a car is a long time in hot weather then out at the event.  I'd think about putting it in a cooler with ice.

My choice would be a pasta salad put together  and chilled the night before and transported in an insulated bag or cooler along with something to keep it cold, such as those frozen  blue gel packs sold in sporting goods or outdoor stores along with coolers.

You could also freeze water in an airtight container such as Lock n Lock, which I've done successfully.

I would dress the salad in some sort of mayo mixture (which could include a little ranch dressing, mustard, etc) as long as you use the ice packs and insulated cooler.  Otherwise a vinaigrette works.  Marie's--sold in the refrigerated section of a grocery's produce dept.-- makes a good Creamy Italian dressing.

My favorite pasta salads include shell  or penne rigate pasta, frozen baby peas, celery, onion, red and green peppers,  diced ham and or turkey, one or two types of diced cheese (gouda, cheddar, monterey jack, to name a few).

To make it look extra nice, ring the bowl with tiny tomatoes.

We drove 7 hours to Corpus Christi in June 2020, and my son did a brisket the day before we left .  We just put in the cooler and took it with us to the condo.  Delish.   Coolers can be used for many things, I would not limit yourself to package foods.

NOT to derail this topic, but does anyone else here remember the "spirited" thread from a couple years ago about mystery ingredients in potluck dishes and casseroles?   There was a wide variety of opinions on that one!  LOL
