1 Pound Ground Beef (frozen) and a Pressure Cooker

Now what? I don't use my pressure cooker often, actually only a few times, and that was with a chicken dish. I'd like to do something with it tomorrow.

With 1 pound frozen ground beef and a pressure cooker, what are your suggestions?

Add a can of tomatoes whole or diced, a pakcet of dry onion soup mix some water, vegetables, maybe a little pasta, and make a great soup!

Re: 1 Pound Ground Beef (frozen) and a Pressure Cooker

How about a hearty chili recipe made in a pressure cooker ready in 8 minutes...

Easy Pressure Cooker Chili Recipe serves 4-6

Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 sweet onion
1 green bell pepper
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded
2 cloves garlic, minced
4 cups of diced tomatoes, 2 cans un-drained
2 cans dark red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
3 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon dark brown sugar
2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper or to taste
2 tablespoons chili powder
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons kosher salt or to taste
1 1/2 cup water

Directions

Brown the ground beef in the pressure cooker on medium heat, ~8 minutes. Remove the meat from the pan and drain some of the grease if you want.

Put the pressure cooker back on the stove and add the olive oil, onions, green pepper, and jalapeno pepper. Cook on medium heat until the onions are clear, about 3 or 4 minutes. Next throw in the garlic and give it a few quick stirs. Finally, add everything else into the mix: the meat, kidney beans, tomatoes, tomato paste, brown sugar, cocoa powder, red pepper flakes, chili powder, cumin, salt, and water.

Stir well and lock the lid. Bring the pressure cooker to pressure (15 psi) on high heat, then immediately lower the heat to maintain this level. Cook for 8 minutes.

When the time is up, remove the pressure cooker from the heat and use the natural release method to cool.

When the pressure cooker has equalized, carefully open the lid. Stir and serve. If you find it needs to be thicker just boil it on the stove for a few extra minutes.

Cheese and Oyster crackers are the traditional garnish.

Thats a good idea. How much water would you add? How long would you cook this in the pressure cooker.

Thanks, Adoreqvc. I've saved the recipe. It sound yummy!

I noticed the directions say to brown the ground beef in the pressure cooker. Is it not recommended to put all ingredients in together, including the frozen ground beef?

That's not how I'd prepare it. I always brown beef before cooking it in the PC. Improves flavor and appearance. I also don't cook frozen meat...how would you know how long to cook it?

Kachina624 you can brown the ground beef separately and follow the recipe.

If you choose to use frozen ground beef you would have to pressure cook it for at least 20 minutes with that recipe. Then separate it well to incorporate it so the cooked ground beef blends into all the ingredients, without large meat clumps.

Here is a recipe I often make when pressed for time.......enjoy

One Pot Pasta Dinner-Pressure Cooker using Frozen Meat

Ingredients:

  • *******( NO NEED TO BROWN ANYTHING)
  • Place everything in pressure cooker making sure it is not over 2/3 full or go by your instruction manual for your model ( remember pasta will expand in the pressure cooker )
  • Top with the meat last ( I crumbled up the ground turkey in chunks)
  • My cooker has several presets, but read your instruction manual for the best setting to use
  • Cook for 15- 20 minutes (20 minutes if the meat is frozen )
  • Let pressure die down naturally
  • Carefully remove cover
  • Stir and serve! Serves about 8-10 people
