I was watching QVC over the weekend. There was a vendor who was talking about giving a gift "On Holiday Morning." It sort of makes me depressed that Christmas has become a word to be avoided. I know they want to be "all inclusive" for all people. But it still makes me sad.

@mormel20, With respect, why ? It changes nothing for those of us who celebrate Christmas. I like living in a more inclusive world, and frankly what makes me sad is how aggressive ( not you ) get about holiday greetings this time of year. Because I know how you feel, I hope you have a Merry Christmas, but please don't be sad because others feel included .

@mormel20

.

So be sad if you must. All people of all beliefs deserved to have their ideals included in the "holiday" classification. It's not exclusive or limited to any one group or religious sect.

Re: "On Holiday Morning" phrase

It's fine to be "inclusive" but there would be no "holiday" morning without Christmas. It started out as a religious holiday and now has morphed into a secular one. But it still is Christmas. Or are we going to start calling it something else???

Re: "On Holiday Morning" phrase

At one point I read there are seven holidays celebrated between Thanksgiving and early January. Viewers may be buying gifts for any of those occasions.

@kaydee50, You can call it anything you like, and so can everyone else.

Re: "On Holiday Morning" phrase

The vendor was probably being all inclusive -- Christmas morning, Hanukkah mornings, Kwanzaa mornings, and any other revered special holiday held during this sacred time. But instead they said holiday morning.

.

Personally, I think it's better and more heartfelt to say the holidays separately. It only takes 2 more seconds. But it sounds like the vendor was trying not to exclude anyone. I respect that consideration.

.

What bothers me is some who try to turn that welcoming word, holiday, into some sort of division.

Yes, who started moving it so far from it's original intent?

I learned recently thru the Hallmark live favorite holiday movies surprisingly that Christmas did not actually start as a religious holiday!

You can read about it by searching.

It started before as a winter festival

before it became the day of birth which no one knew really what day

so King Constantine chose a day and chose Dec 25th.

Dec 25th was originally celebrated by the Romans to celebrate the birth of their sun god Mithra. Imagine that!

Lots of interesting things about how Christmas came about as it is today.
