I am a fan of The Voice, but I thought I would tune in last week and yesterday to catch American Idol which I have never watched. I was confused by the simplicity of the audition process but assumed it was always done this way. The silliness with some of the contestants made me glad that I had recorded it and could fast forward through those parts.

I will give it another chance next week since I did witness some truly talented people perform.

I watched the first few seasons of American Idol and then got bored with it.  I think after Adam Lambert, I was done.

There are so many good shows on TV now, with all the streaming services.  All the "reality" shows, contests (dancing with the starts), and such are of no interest to me anymore.  Thank goodness we have more choices now.

I agree.  I wish they would edit all of that out and focus on the performances (which were wonderful!).  I also have a problem with how they shoot the girls, especially the conventionally attractive ones--the camera does the slow pan up their body from feet to head.  It was very obvious with the 17 yr old blonde last night and I find it disturbing.  They don't do that with the guys.

I agree. I thought that it was weird and disturbing the way her body was "scanned".

I haven't watched American Idol since Carrie Underwood won. I picked her to win from the begining.

I didn't realize that it was still on.

Don't think Q has any control over this?

This is the reason I do not watch either. The wife dvr'd it last nite for me but told me to delete it if I wasn't interested. If you get you tube Britain Got Talent is very good. I watch that on a regular basis. The talent is very good.

I've just always liked Idol...for all it's faults and ups and downs.

I agree about that pretty (and very talented!) 17 y.o. last night...they did kind of scan her, not surprising but not great. She does have a lot going for her...plays an instrument, sings well, is the age they love to start them at, not too young but not even yet 20...perfect to market. And very pretty.

I also think some of the "sob stories" for lack of a better term, get overdone...Idol has ALWAYS done this, always been criticized for it, and continues it more than ever...so someone thinks it works for them, I guess.

But all the criticisms aside....I thought last night's episode had some interesting talent, I'm curious to see go forward.

The girl with the "cute giggle" that Luke liked...that segment made me cry, I'll admit...so I laughed at myself, who rolls my eyes sometimes at the sob stories...still gets affected by them. What can I say....I own it...I still like the show.

That was the last season that I watched it too.  In the beginning it was a new concept and that made it exciting but after a few seasons it became predictable and I lost interest.
