Why does it take so long to ship?

I ordered three items of clothing on Jan. 10 and it just shipped on Jan. 14. Seriously, what takes so long to get these items in the box? We are paying a premium for shipping multiple items and it seems they could do it faster. It sometimes takes over 10 days for items to arrive. That's too long.
