Re: Why Vendors Still Not On Set

Some of the vendors do have professional camera & video set-ups.  I noticed that Jacque Stafford of Isaac Mizrahi has the "white umbrella" set up in her living room in Brooklyn.  This white umbrella casts the right amount of light on her when she is skyping or zooming in.  I have seen some of the newscasters have these white umbrellas set up during the height of the pandemic broadcasting from home.  And you can also see them used during live remotes.

What bothers me the most about remotes is the audio. Most of it sounds terrible. But otherwise I'm okay with it.

I'm fine with it if the quality is good.  Some vendors have excellent video and audio.  But others are barely audible or viewable.

I don't understand why QVC doesn't go into the vendors' homes and set up a more professional remote.  They seem to be relying on Skype and the vendors' internet connections, which isn't always decent.

If they had professional quality remotes, I would think that would be much less costly than having every vendor come into the QVC building.  They could continue permanently.

@geezerette   Having vendors remote doesn't bother me.  But, the quality of transmission is not always good.  Some look and sound very professional but others not so much.  I have wondered what the difference was on the type of equipment being used.  The ones I really don't like are for makeup.  The lighting is usually bad.

@Winkk

I think some of the vendors have better equipment, like some of the electronics vendors.  And I wouldn't doubt that a few have hired professional camera/sound people.  But I think other vendors are just using their laptops and phones.  Some stand too far away from their devices to be audible.  And some are either using filters or have a very slow internet because the picture is always fuzzy.

I don't really blame the vendors themselves.  Most are just the reps Skyping from home like you or I do.  I don't think it's their job to have to figure out how to put on a professional presentation without some kind of help, either from QVC or the company they're representing.

Re: Why Vendors Still Not On Set

[ Edited ]

I live not too far from QVC.  Until very recently, our Covid numbers were quite high.  Just this week, newspapers have begun noting falling numbers.
With vendors at a distance, QVC and companies do not have to worry about vaccine mandates/ testing. And as someone earlier noted, flying right now seems less than pleasant.
So, besides cost and convenience, I would respectfully suggest that there are other reasons for vendors not to be back...yet.  Maybe some never will want to come back. Maybe we may see going forward a hybrid model-- with some vendors in the studio and others appearing virtually.

Re: Why Vendors Still Not On Set

If I was a vendor, I'd find it annoying to have to climb on an airplane, putting myself and my family at risk, for a TV appearance that would last a few minutes.... or less.  Anyone who thinks this pandemic is over and done, has her head in the sand.

Covid is still a weighty problem. I am fine with vendors not appearing 'in person."

I guess they are still using Covid as an excuse to have vendors skyped in from their homes instead of actually being on the show with the host presenting their item. Probably will never go back to the way it was pre-covid. I find it annoying watching a split screen and listening to host and vendor talk over each other.

I watched shophq today because they had jewelry shows.  Their vendors were on set today, at least the lady from Passage to Israel was there.  Had pretty pieces tooSmiley Happy

I don't blame vendors for not being on the set. The pandemic is still going strong and is a valid reason to not fly.

@Sapphiregal   I agree that Calista or other ones who live locally could return to the studio. With all the violence I'm hearing about during plane travel and the lines to check vaccines, etc., I see why west coast vendors are staying put. I don't hear their video sometimes as well or see the styles/colors presented as well as if in the QVC studio.

On Q2, sometimes vendors present w/o a host.

"Excuse" you say? Our area still has numerous cases, in spite of a concerted effort to stop it.

SHQ has had many vendors back and JTV just a few. The vendors are probably happy to stay away. Save a ton of money and time on travel, meals, hotels, air fare, and some for just a few minutes of air time.  And if they drive, save a ton on gas!!!

@Shelbelle   I assumed QVC used to pick up the cost of travel/hotels. Maybe it's no longer in the budget.
