Re: Why? Still having multiple hosts on shows…

Well, since they currently have 29 hosts listed, guess they figure they should use them. I think the idea is to incorporate a kind of "entertainment/small talk" combined with selling. I think this started or really picked up with the new head honcho at QVC. Problem is in a lot of cases one host tries to outdo the other and it can become unwatchable, and there goes a sale. When they start the giggling, dancing and loud voices, I am out. I do miss Judy Crowell, Kathy Levine and Lisa Mason.

@wakefield64   The entertainment factor of QVC is not new at all.  It's their original intent, along with selling.  Their original board of directors worked on game shows. It has never been a secret that QVC management, over it's 30+ years, is an "entertainment TV sales business."

Remember all those dress up shows during Gold Rush, the hosts telling Christmas stories and singing songs, etc.

They even mention entertainment in every quarterly sales call to investors, still.

It's just the type of entertainment that has changed.  It's like reality show antics and the social media craze to be as outrageous as they can get away with.

I think it has to do with the Q wanting to make hosts be seem like more than salespeople. They want people to care about hosts and think they are friends. Obviously, a lot of people fall for it.

Hosts are salespeople who happen to be on tv. They are not friends or acquantances and never will be.

The antics and unnecessary personal talk is part of Q's marketing. It's harder to do when there is only 1 host.

Hosts only care about making sales and entertaining (if that's what you call it). Hosts don't care about viewers.

@misschristy    QVC management sees the sales figures and can best judge what formula generates the most activity.  The responsibility to stockholders is on them so don't spend your time worrying about it.

I agree, it irritates me so I don't watch.  I really enjoy HSN.  HSN is usually my go to when nothing is on to watch.  Very professional presentations and prices are better in my opinion anyway.  People are not talking over each other.  Hosts  dress nicely, usually they are wearing clothing from HSN.  Smiley Happy

This may have been addressed but does Alberti ever work alone??  He's ALWAYS with another host when I see him.  Maybe I don't watch enough but I never see him as a stand alone presenter.

Re: Why? Still having multiple hosts on shows…

I udsually order online and don't watch much of QVC, it gets too repetitive after a while. Even with Beauty shows, which I generally enjoy, I usually don't watch the entire show.

I don't understand two hosts all the time either. I can see it on Monday Night though for Girls Night In or whatever it is called because the show is so long, at least 4 hours, so then I can see it, but not for 2 or 3 hour shows.

And certainly not all the time. It seems there will always be one dominant person, and the other one just kind of shows colors and is relegated to being the"yes" person......  Maybe they think they will receive more sales that way. Who knows?

@betteD   Good observation.  It's rare, but Alberti does have solo shows sometimes, but not many at all.  QVC does give him some of those special series shows as a solo host.  He had a home decor show for a few weeks.  He's doing a solo Fall show, and a solo Nutrisystem show next week.

Alberti also does more things outside the studio than other hosts, like his stint on Gordon Ramsey's show.  He also did a live show on Facebook at Ocean City recently.

Plus, Alberti is only one of two hosts (David is the other host) that has a weekly livestream where he talks about everything from upcoming shows, special projects, tours of his home, decor ideas, etc.

Re: Why? Still having multiple hosts on shows…

Maybe Alberti will jump ship and create his own show one day.  The first time I saw him be calm and serious was on Gordan's show.  I did not know he had it in him.  So glad I saw that episode so I know he isn't just one-dimensional as he appears on the Q. Cat Happy

Seems there may be something better for him in the future.

@Caaareful Shopper   I think you are right..since I have been a customer since 1989 maybe I have become crankier or their "entertainment" has gotten a lot worse. But doing the dress up costume stuff is different than what they are trying to do now.....old teenage giggly sleep over behavior.

@wakefield64  I agree with you.
