Who is responsible for stolen packages?

If packages are stolen from the porch, is it just the loss of the purchaser?  Does it depend on the shipper?

I have to be gone today and am concerned since this is a popular time of year for people to snatch packages from porches, at least in my neighborhood.

Re: Who is responsible for stolen packages?

I had a tv delivered to my son last year from Amazon. It was definitely delivered but by the time he got home from work it was gone.  Amazon was wonderful. They notified fed ex, my son checked with his neighbors at Amazon request. After 3 days Amazon sent a new tv requiring a signature. We were very fortunate but I don't think most retailers will do this.

Re: Who is responsible for stolen packages?

My REGULAR UPS guy will never leave it on my steps. He will either put it in my back yard or attempt to give it to my next door neighbor... Now if he happens to take a day off or go on vacation..and I am not home..he is instructed to take it to a desinated store and I have to pick it up there...He told me that there are some stores that wont allow them to do that and that they have to make at least a 2nd attempt to deliver it...QVC is not one of those vendors..they have given UPS permission to make 1 attempt and then after that you are responsible to pick it up..People who work, this is a great option..but I am home and I like the package delivered to my house, even if it takes them more than 1 time!

Yes.  We have all been asleep at the wheel and never saw it coming.  Sickening.

When June Cleaver stopped wearing pearls, dresses & heels while vacuuming the house.

Many people have packages delivered to their place of employment because that's where they are during delivery hours.

Another possibility is to require a signature for delivery at the time you place  the order.

One more thing to keep in mind  ........   if you ever see a vehicle following a delivery truck, and then  someone pops out and grabs the packages ....... if possible, be a good citizen and get the make of the car and license plate  if possible, and call the police!!

Re: Who is responsible for stolen packages?

i get everything delivered to my parents house, where i live they would have to leave it right on my step and i live on a busy street anyone would be able to steal it! i was walking home the other nite it was pitch dark and i saw someone had a package delivered & it was sittingt on there step, anyone walking by could just pick it right up, i really considered taking it, than calling them and telling them i had it and taking it to them the next day... where i live i guarantee any packages left right on steps will be stolen, pretty sad you can't trust anyone nowsdays

Re: Who is responsible for stolen packages?

I never received one package a few years back. I called the company, who credited my credit card. Three months later, I received a battered bag with all the items inside. I called the company again, and told them. I said that I was perfectly happy to "buy them again", because although I had replaced them elsewhere, I liked the items and would use them. I asked that they just give me a slight discount since they were so late. They told me to keep them for free, because they had already received a settlement from an insurance claim that they filed for the package.
