I'm thinking a QVC buyer bought it at a substantial discount.  I was a buyer for a chain of men's stores years ago and this was not at all unusual.  You give the public a reasonable time to buy it with no action, and you swoop in and get it yourself.

 

Now that I've actually seen this thing, I'm thinking copper plated solid gold.  Very heavy, of course.
