I ordered an item that was available when I ordered it. And the next day it’s “backordered.” What does that mean? What is the difference between that and waitlist? I understand sold out. But what does backordered mean?

@esmerelda  It means that when they tried to fill your order they didn't have sufficient merchandise to do so.  Now they will try to acquire more merchandise and if they are unable to do so in about 45 days your order will be canceled.  I've had this happen several times.  Hope this helps.

What it probably means is that if this was to have been a Christmas gift you might want to look for an alternative...

@stevieb  That's probably true.  I don't have much luck with BO items and especially if I need them by a certain date, like Christmas.

@lucymo It seems to me it used to be very different... I used to almost always receive backordered or wait list items, but it seems to now be more the norm for them to end up being cancelled.

@steviebIt's been a long while since I've received an order that was BO'd.  I've already stopped ordering anything that I need by Christmas, too risky to count on it getting here.
