I think that the 'default' set up might have been more confusing than it needed to be.
I went into 'Edit My Preferences' and made a number of changes that made the set up look very familiar and user-friendly.
Also, there are a lot of new features that are good - stuff that other boards have had for years, so they are trying to catch up I guess. 
Anyway, after I changed the view to 'Forum Only View' it made total sense and I was able to fine-tune it from there.
I think they are still working on it because I've seen some changes just since I first came here this morning.
