When a host announces how many items in a certain color or size are left, I often hear, "only 2 dozen left" (or 1 or some other number). Is that a literal dozen, as in 12, or 24 for 2 dozen, or is it referring to something else? I've often wondered if 1 dozen refers to another number such as 100 and so on. Just seems odd that they announce quantities using dozen as an increment.

I'm going to assume a dozen is the standard number of twelve. I would think one hundred would fall in the bulk category. It would be funny to hear a host say" we have a bulk left".

No matter what they say its a selling tactic to get people to rush and order. One of my favorites is when a host says only order of the season and then the total quantity of that item is 600 to begin with. Why so low especially if the item is a great seller.

Re: What Does It Really Mean?

12 is probably how their bulk inventory is counted.

So if they have 2 units left in inventory, it's 2 dozen items.

I just take it at face value because I don't care.

If it sells out, then more $$$ in my pocket.

Re: What Does It Really Mean?

I'm guessing it sounds better than 22 left.  They all seem to refer to x dozen.  It's a moving target because people constantly buy and cancel orders.
