Re: WEST CHESTER CHRISTMAS PARADE?

With the rise in crime in the Philly area, I imagine that had a part in the decision.

I doubt it.  West Chester is in the suburbs, out in Chester County.  It's a safe community, relatively speaking.

We don't need a weatherman announcing the parade. It should be QVC hosts only in my opinion.  Always loved listening to Dan harken back to the nostaligiac days of his youth during the parade. I wonder QVC decided not to sponsor the parade because of poor financials?  Such a shame as QVC is a cornerstone of the West Chester PA economy.

Do you live in the West Chester area?  I do and Adam Joseph is a much beloved weathercaster and member of our community.  He works for the ABC station in Philly, which is 30 miles from us.

"Meteorologist Adam Joseph joined the Action News weather team in April of 2005, and is currently the weekday meteorologist on Action News at 4pm, 5:30pm and Action News at 10pm.

Adam graduated from Lyndon State College with a Bachelor of Science in 2000. His first on-air experience came in 1998 when he forecasted and anchored the weather on LSC-TV. Looking back, he laughs at his green performance, but cherishes the experience Lyndon was able to give him prior to achieving a degree.

Adam started his career at WBOY-TV as the Chief Meteorologist in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Shortly after, he landed a job with WSAZ-TV in Charleston-Huntington, West Virginia. It was there he received the prestigious AMS Seal of Approval for Television, as well as several awards for meteorology excellence. Four years later, he joined WPVI as the weekend Meteorologist in April of 2005. You can find Adam every weekday on Action News at 4pm, 5:30pm, and Action News at 10pm on PHL-17. He contributes to countless station specials, including the 6abc Thanksgiving Day Parade, The Flower Show preview special, and the Auto Show preview special, just to name a few. Adam loves the balance of fulfilling a lifetime passion for weather while dipping into the entertainment world. Adam fills in on ABC's Good Morning America when needed, and was voted Philadelphia's Best Meteorologist by Philadelphia Magazine in 2009 and was honored to accept the 40 under 40 award from the Philadelphia Business Journal for professional excellence and community involvement in 2011.

Adam is strongly committed to making a difference in the community and is heavily involved with Hospice and the American Cancer Society. Adam enjoys weight lifting, running, biking, swimming, spending time with family, and just making every day count. He participated in his first triathlon in Richwood, West Virginia in 2001, and has since completed a total of 13 triathlons. In 2013 he completed 7 triathlons, the final being a 70.3 half ironman in Bear Delaware. It was a goal of his for more than 12 years."

Parades harkon us to yesteryear. Dans stories were compelling and folksy. It's a shame QVC cut corners and discontinued corporate sponsorship. I'm sure they will hear it when they air holiday programming on Christmas and the parade is not broadcast. Watching this parade became a tradition for my family.

West Chester is a good 40 mins away from Philadelphia over 30 miles.

@qbetzforreal @NYwoman  We live about 25 miles from Manhattan. We stay away because of the crime. Meanwhile nothing at all is happening or has happened in our town in many years. I really doubt crime is why QVC is not participating in the parade. If it would cost them money then I think that would be the reason.

Crime was the reason that QVC didn't renew its corporate parade sponsorship....that's a good one!!!

More likely corporate belt tightening to meet CEO goals, which include expense reductions as part of the Project Athens turnaround plan.

I noticed from the West Chester Chamber of Commerce that QVC is not a sponsor of the holiday festivities at any of the various tiers or levels.  They could have sponsored a lamp post,  but not even that.

As title sponsor, I think it was very expensive for QVC.  The parade was 3-1/2 hours long and drew a lot of out-of-towners.  The Chamber of Commerce has indicated the parade will be a smaller affair this year, which, for some people, isn't a bad thing.

Parades continue to take place in towns and cities all across our country.

Re: WEST CHESTER CHRISTMAS PARADE?

From the many threads on the subject here, I suspect their customers would prefer that QVC spend their parade sponsorship dollars on free shipping for everyone instead.

Interesting how QVC cut ties with Shoes on Sale and the West Chester Parade.
