It doesn't make any difference who pays for travel, it's all tax deductible, so us common folk are paying for it.

No.  That's not how taxes work.  What you call tax deductions, accountants call expenses.  Businesses pay taxes based on net income.  Net income is gross income less expenses.  Expecting a business to operate without incurring any expenses is unreasonable.

  • @On It   I thought Carolyn said she would still present products, QVC would be taking over the manufacturing.  They'll probably farm it our to somebody overseas.  Good-bye another New Mexico business.

@On It    That makes much more sense.  I highly doubt Q pays for their travel except lines like Sport Savvy abd Denim&co which are proprietary brands.   The Sport Savvy vendor lives in Florida.

I don't need the vendor to be present in the studio if the host is in the studio with the remote vendor. The only thing that really bothers me is when they  show any items from qvc .com photos.

Re: Vendor Return to Studio Costly

Over the years I've felt sorry for some of these vendors having to come in, stay in town, make presentations at all hours of the day and night. I can't imagine that this doesn't take away time from running their businesses. I can understand them coming in for a TSV or a few other events, but it's got to be so difficult to go to the studio. During the pandemic, Isaac, Susan, Kim G, Josie, and others look much more relaxed broadcasting from home. I was glad they didn't have to risk getting sick.

I don't know how the vendors that still design and head design teams have any time left to do this portion of the job.  I'm always thinking, poor Gary. He's on air so much he has become tantamount to a show host. He must be exhausted. When does he have time to work with his design team?

David Dangle does not live too far from the QVC studio.  He has an apartment in NYC.  But he had a single family home built in Pennsylvania, for the sole purpose of appearing on air at QVC.

But I agree that I think many guests are reconsidering their in-person appearances since it's largely a huge expense over time and a waste of resources.

Susan, Josie, Isaac, Renee -- just a few of the hosts who are on QVC several times a week, and still only do less than 10% of their shows in-person.  Smart.

@Caaareful Shopper @I agree. I also think the expenses are only small part of the issue. It's tremendously taxing to travel back and forth so much. It's easier to work from home.

Re: Vendor Return to Studio Costly

Now that so many shows have two hosts, the vendors or sales reps rarely get a word in edgewise. I don't see what the point of having them is if you aren't going to let them talk. Several of the reps are former hosts or models.  I thought I remembered reading once that QVC buys the inventory before hand so if that's the case, the sales rep or vendor has all ready made the sale whether they are there or not.  I remember the days of one host alone and they did fine.

@depglass Not just the sound quality. One thing I do notice is the lighting. Jacqui Stafforord desperately needs some lighting help for her evening shows. Sometimes it's hard to see the garments in the lighting she has in her home. When she presents in front of her large window during daylight hours the fashions are so much easier to see.

All the vendors showing garments from home need some enhancement to the lighting they already have.

@On It - Carolyn and Bill Pollack said, in their video, that Carolyn would still be appearing on QVC and designing new jewelry.  They said they are going into "semi-retirement".

They are giving up the manufacturing side of their business.  That will be handled by QVC from now on.

Re: Vendor Return to Studio Costly

I dislike a Vendor in a box.  Does it make a difference in what I buy?  IDK since I havent bought anything from QVC in a few months except something that didn't need a vendor in the first place.  I went looking for it.  However, if the vendor or spokesperson, I don't care which, is going to demonstrate a product, I think it needs to be in-studio.  Especially with makeup, the lighting is bad and we can't see the detail and the colors are off.  A lot of the time they lose the feed, still.
