The rates are supposed to go up an average of 4.9%....

I wonder why they picked Christmas Eve to do it...

Re: UPS to raise rates Dec 24th

I would imagine that any date earlier would appear like price gouging for Christmas shipments.  JMHO.

Their way of saying Happy New Year.  And price gouging as a late Christmas present.

Sound like the gouging is coming right in time, Dec. 24th!

I'm sure you have noticed prices have risen for the goods & services you buy, it's no different for businesses & they pass those increases on to the customer, it's not price gouging it's simple economics.

It would stand to reason that if the shipping costs go up, those costs will get passed on to the customer.

I hope that helps them find my door bell.

I read that part of the reason is to encourage retailers to ship earlier. They had to hire more workers than the usually hire for all the retailers offering overnight shipping on December 23 and 24th.

I'm pretty sure Fed Ex is planning to increase rates.

Re: UPS to raise rates Dec 24th

I don't think it's gouging -  I think it's reality -  costs are going up on lots of items -  I paid a greater increase than that for grapefruit this week -   and car insurance???   Mine went up about 10% with my latest bill , and no, I wasn't involved in any accidents.

As for the timing of the increase - wouldn't almost all Christmas items have already shipped?   They can't changed the price once the package has left the warehouses, or can they???
