Too much trouble and expense to return

I don't get it.

I've just read two reviews for the Barbara King 22" boxwood wreath that was on earlier.  Both reviewers (one gave 1 star, one gave 3) disliked the wreath but thought it was too much trouble and expense to send back.

REALLY?  The featured price is pennies short of $60.  If I was unhappy with something that I paid that much for, I'd be more than glad to pack it back in it's original packaging...especially something easy like a wreath...and have the $6.95 deducted from the original cost.

I bought a Nutribullet from the other channel and paid nearly the equivalent of one flex payment to return it TO CALIFORNIA.  I still paid to return it because there were 4 or 5 OTHER flex payments I wouldn't have to pay and I wouldn't be stuck with something I didn't like or want.

So I wonder...maybe they didn't really dislike it all that much.

Re: Too much trouble and expense to return

I have to agree...what's the big deal in using the box that it came in plus the shipping label provided?

Also in many areas you don't even have to go to the post office & drop it off...just go to USPS.com and schedule a pick up.  They will come to your front door or porch and pick up returns for free.

Re: Too much trouble and expense to return

If those people are telling the truth, I don't understand it either.  I've seen my fair share of posts from people on this board saying they didn't return something because it wasn't worth it.

I have missed the time frame to send stuff back, that I will admit.  I have also thought something would be okay and then never used it or wore it so it was a waste of money but I have never kept something because it was too much trouble for me to pack it back up and return it.

Anything over $20.00 and I send it back.

@haddon9 I agree 100%, I don't know how they could make it any easier or more convenient to return something. It's made very clear what the return fee is, it's even on the provided return label. They give you 2 return label options, UPS or USPS. I just returned a wig yesterday at the post office, walked in handed it to the clerk and out the door in about 2 min.  It's our own fault if we don't open something for weeks and then miss the 30 day return window.

@esmerelda, we purchased the TSV ladder a couple weeks ago and discovered it wasn't really the right one for us. So yes, we had to pay shipping both ways, but it still made sense. We used the prepaid return label for $10.95., knowing that we would not be able to beat that price at all. We had USPS pick it up and it was received five days four days later.

Now, if it were something very inexpensive that we weren't crazy about but could make some use of it, I would think twice about sending it back because of the shipping costs both ways.

It makes no sense to not return a $60 item becuase it costs $7 to return it.  Can't people do math?

Re: Too much trouble and expense to return

I learned my lesson long ago. No matter how little or how great the cost, it's going back if it's unusable to me and going in the donation pile. I just don't care about S&H losses.

I think the Q counts on people keeping unwanted or defective items when balancing cost of item and cost of returning.

Of course, I'm much more careful in purchases with no impulse buying..

Maybe keeping an item and thus having something to show for the money, even if unused or disliked, seems a better option than losing $10-15 and having nothing. Either way it's wasted money, but we tend to choose the option we can rationalize or more readily live with. Eta: this is in reference to lower cost items. I definitely would get a refund on an item like a $60 wreath.

The non refund of original shipping charge is a deterrent to impulse shopping for me, especially on heavy or bulky items. Some packaging is almost impossible to keep intact for potential repackaging, especially the boxes with the Styrofoam packed in tightly.

The fact that QVC products are "too much trouble and expense to return" usually prevents me from ordering in the first place.

Re: Too much trouble and expense to return

Seems like it's just something else to complain about.  The cost of a return in known up front.
