Was watching VPH yesterday, and it struck me how much better some host/vendor pairings are than others.
Rick and Valerie were teriffic at Midnight, as usual. She's the best with him and none of the other hosts even come close.
But I was also struck by how awkward Amy Stran was with VPH later in the day. She is so great with fashion and people like Lori G, but she was stumbling and bumbling her way through the 2 hrs with VPH, even asking at points, "what should I do here" while holding an item.
Right now I'm watching Dennis Basso with Rosina. She's improved a lot but still is often a bit unsure of herself. But she's great with Dennis,of all people, lol. He seems to really like her, and he always lets it be known if he's not satisfied with a host. His clothes look great on her, too.
Always interesting seeing who clicks together and who doesn't.

I agree about Rick and Valerie.😃❤️
I think Rosina will be with Alina for the PLW show in at 11. Seems like she's always more comfortable with her. 😃

@Packersfan1265. I really don't care for Rick with Valerie. He's still loud, over- bearing and obnoxious, but know many people enjoy him.
My favorite is Jane Brown who has artistic talents and slides right into decorating. Pat is good too b3cause she's so enthusiastic.
Valerie works well with every host, even some she has to prop up.

Favorite pairings? I like Amy Stran with Logo (Lori Goldstein); pat james Demetri with Susan Graver; the "late" Carolyn with Gary (denim & co); and Leah or David Venable with just about anybody. Oh yeah... I think Shawn Killinger is good with Isaac Mizrahi.

And I really liked Amy with Valerie, partly for the same reasons you state you didn't like that pairing.
I didn't see her "stumbling and bumbling" at all. And as for asking what should she do in certain instances, that was a different approach to get Valerie to explain various decorating ideas instead of the usual "I would do such-and-such". It was appealing to those that may be somewhat overwhelmed by how to put things together. Not everyone that watches Valerie is an expert decorator. They may see a piece (such as the TSV) that appeals to them but have no idea how to incorporate it into their home.
Amy was respectful of Valerie and didn't interrupt her or yell or sing or go off on the many tangents I've heard from other hosts. She made comments and asked questions that others may have had. I like her and Valerie together very much.
I also really like Rick, who has a totally different approach.😄

I agree that the show with Amy was terrific. Refreshing and new.
She was respectful and deferential when necessary.
I much prefer that to a few hosts (I won't name) who seem to know everything about decorating.
It worked remarkably well.
Brava Amy! Brava! More Amy and Val pairings are called for, indeed!

I agree about Valerie and Jayne Brown. Jayne is so polite and never loses her cool or gets flustered. Her creativity always seem to be in sync with Valerie's. Valerie clearly likes Rick's energy and joking so I don't mind them together. I don't think I have ever seen Shawn with Valerie. I think when Valerie does these marathons, you have to give her some slack by the last one. She's usually out of product and losing her voice by that time.
Kim Gravel and Rachel or Kim Gravel with Mary Beth are the easiest pairings.
Jayne Brown with Gary of Denim & Co is also great. Jayne seems to get Gary to laugh a lot.
Issac Mizrahi with Amy is always good. I think of Amy as a fashion host, never a design host.
Harry Slatkin with Shawn works as a pairing. I don't last long listening to his 978th reciting of where he used to work 20 years ago.

@geezerette , I agree with everything you said here. The show with Amy and Valerie was so nice, and I do enjoy watching Rick with her too.

Rick isn't always a favorite of mine, but I always like him and Valerie. @Kachina624 made a great point about Jayne working well with Valerie. Those home decor shows are my happy place. Wish I could redecorate for every season.

I like Rick, Jayne, Pat and recently saw Rachael Ellis with Valerie. All great. I thought Amy was good with Valerie too. I like Alberti with Martha, and I like many hosts with Jim Shore. I do like Mary with Kim and with Harry. I like Steve Doss with all the vendors. David seems respectful of all his vendors. I really enjoy the format of Explore your style with Vanessa, and the models having microphones. I'm enjoying Morning connections with Mary and Steve on Wednesdays. Yes, I probably watch too much Q. But the fall shows are some of my favorites.
I miss Dan Hughes.
