Re: “This is the ‘antithesis’ of Quacker Factory”??

@SpurtI wasn't reacting to the host's overall performance because that wasn't the gist of the original post.

Actually, I have no idea who she is even -  nor do I know why QVC continues to use her if she's not up to the job.  BTW-  my understanding is that it's up to her producer to point out egregious errors.  From my exerience with student teachers, I'd say she could be quite unaware of the error like the one that started this thread, but if she's wrong frequently, I'd think on some level she knows.

But I also know, some of our reactions to the hosts is based on who we are as much as who they are.  Some of my favorite hosts over the years were not Forum favorites and some of the Forum favorites were close to automatic turn-offs for me.

Yes, agree...we all have our host preferences probably based on who we are and our own personalities which flavor our likes and dislikes.....BUT sometimes it's not so much personality as it is a level of COMPETENCE for the job position itself.....

And Mike George and others have made it clear in their financial presentations on the demographic they are going for.....it's even a topic of their slide presentations...so they seem to be going for APPEARANCES to bring younger viewers in...but appearances alone will not keep customers watching and buying....it can have an opposite impact as people grab their remotes ....

I thought that too, but looking at the top it looks like classic QF.

If she meant epitome instead of antithesis, then I don't think she misspoke. She probably has no idea what antithesis means. That's not a word you accidentally use incorrectly when you know what it means.

@Spurt  Do you think anyone anywhere has an idea how to bring young VIEWERS/BUYERS to the shopping channels?

Read the press conferences, intereviews, checkout the slideshow presentations....apparently QVC Execs are tasked with this challenge.....

Yes, I heard it and cringed. Wonder what if anything the

vendors can say to ignorance like that. Later that day I heard a newscaster say eminent meaning imminent.

I take exception to those who have said or implied that it's better not to use what they consider "big words."

This incident aside, some people do have an extensive vocabulary and should never be mocked for it. I agree with the poster who has said that "antithesis" is not particularly high-falutin.

One caveat would be to know your audience, because of course the most important aspect of speaking is that people will understand you.

Another caveat is to know the meaning of a word!!!  One of the reasons I don't watch her is because she  makes mistakes on every show. She is always apologizing for saying the wrong number, the wrong color, the wrong amount etc...

@JJsMomto me it's classic QF too but you never know what a hosts' selling technique is. LOL

I am in awe that there are SIX pages discussing a "mistake" that a host made....unreal! I'd guarantee you just as another poster said, I bet hardly anyone even noticed it, let alone felt the need to create a thread to "discuss" it! lol

Wow and we wonder what is wrong with this world. I'd like to see some of you all step up to the plate and be a host for a day, oh and make sure you make NO mistakes while you're at it too!! lol Smiley Wink

This is all so silly, but I had to comment...

Oh and just for the record, Kristine Zell is my favorite host, but even if she wasn't I would still feel the SAME way I do about this if for instance we were discussing Mary Beth Roe (it was a mistake, not a big deal) That being said, I think Kristine Zell does a great job, she always has such an upbeat attitude and it's refreshing to watch her presentation(s). IMO of course

@BrandiDavis, not for nothing but if you are seeing 6 pages of discussion, you either have your settings so very few posts are shown per page or your font is ginormous.  I only have 2 pages of posts. Smiley Happy

Regardless, both of you would have the same # of comments. I have mine set for 10 posts per page. Not sure why...I just like it like that! Smiley Happy
