Re: “The Big Find” on QVC

I was looking at this the other day and didn't understand it.  At first I though they wanted ideas for new items or brands to sell, but it also reads somewhat like they want inventors with new items (they do a thing like that on HSN, forget what it's called)?  What do you think?  Because why would you be a "fnalist' just for suggesting a new product or brand?  Confused.

@Grouchomarx  I think it's another iteration of QVC (and HSN) looking for new products to sell on air.  Back in the day, it was the 50/50 Tour.

Then, more recently they had that promotion in conjunction with the Today Show where they had people pitch their products and finalists won a spot to sell their item on QVC.  That one was called, "Today's Next Big Thing."

So now, "The Big Find" is doing the same thing, but not affiliated with The Today Show or any show.  They will have people come to one of those select cities instead, and try to win a spot on QVC (or HSN).

A few years ago Q had SPROUT for new businesses and products. Customers voted on favorites. More household items I recall, than jewelry or beauty etc.

Re: “The Big Find” on QVC

Gotta ask the obvious.

How incapable are the buyers at QVC and HSN that in this day and age, they need to beg for people to come to them?

They get paid for finding the newest, latest and greatest and getting those products on the air.

Just wow.

Think about it.  If I had a product and I knew about QVC and HSN, I would already be there.  The ad would not apply to me.

If I have a product and I do not know about QVC and HSN and since this ad is only being shown on QVC and HSN, I guess we are not going to do business any time soon, right?

The disconnect is strong on this one.

Re: “The Big Find” on QVC

I don't think this promotion is meant to be confusing or out of the ordinary.  "The Big Find" could be a way for QVC/HSN to increase viewership, profits and at the same time provide an opportunity for someone who has a new product idea. Nothing too deep IMO.

@alarmclock  The ad is not just on QVC and HSN websites, it’s on numerous social media platforms as well.

I think searching for new ideas across the country every couple of years is a good idea.  The height of arrogance is QVC thinking they are the only bright minds and have every idea possible under the sun that can come to QVC.  A lot of inventors or entrepreneurs don’t have the vision to think they could be successful at QVC.  One ad could be all the push someone may need to give it a shot, especially if they are not regular viewers but saw the ad somewhere.

I think you missed the point.  If you are seeing it on social media, you are already aware of the networks.  You would have already contacted them about being on the air, no push from them needed.

And let's remember one big thing:

Many new businesses have been crushed by trying to be on television shopping.  It ain't the sweet deal it looks like.

Aware of the networks is one thing, but thinking of either of them as a viable sales channel is quite another.  You know how many people talk themselves out of doing things because they think "they're too big," or "they'd never be interested in my little idea," etc.?  I think marketing like this is just the push some people need.  It cannot hurt.

The 50/50 tour discovered Quacker Factory.  That last venture with The Today Show had a winner that sold out her product on QVC.  Yes, most definitely won't make it on TV.  But why not reach out?  Damned if they do, damned it they don't.
