Last night watching a program and the host called herself a TV personality. It took me by surprise considering they are a host on a shopping channel.

My garbage truck driver calls himself a 'sanitation engineer'.

I'll take a stab at it.  Probably Julia. She's so obnoxious.  Her pet name for George is "Georgie."  She just amuses herself.

No, just a salesperson.  Which is more than fine if the products are shown well.

Sorry, but I think all of the hosts think they are stars, I mean they have " fans " for goodness sake. The boat has sailed on most of them being good salespersons, thank heavens for the website.

It's the ability to act, emote and display one's personality that sets the hosts apart from being just salespersons like the vendor reps are.  There's a lot more entertainment than we give them credit for.  That's why hosts are infinitely more fun to watch than vendor reps.  I suppose in their way they are TV personalities, but not stars.

The term "TV personality" has been used to describe people hosting things on TV for decades—it isn't a self-aggrandizing phrase or anything like that.

Yes, like game show hosts or chefs who have shows, but I don't see a shopping channel  host as a tv personality!
