Like another here, I remember when vendor reps, if any, were few and far between. The host carried the show, had the knowledge, did the presentation.
Poor David...Sunday when he was by himself showing his Lock n Lock configuration, he seemed frantic trying to keep up with the colors that sold out and removing them.
I like David and he's probably presented alone before, but Sunday...I think it was the first item...frantic. Glad the set did well..with his name on it and everything.
David seems to be more and more OBSESSED with colors or how many they sold in the show and little else about the products....Its a pet peeve of mind when the vendor is making an important point and David interrupts and says "lets go through the colors" (again!)......I already know them by heart ...
I think (and realize that many love DV) that he leans on product reps more than others, as he focuses on colors happy dancing etc
I don't watch the kitchen shows, but I was thinking exactly the same thing this morning. Many of the hosts are now more focused on being entertainers.

Hosts take their cues from the producer speaking in their earpiece. If they want a color or quantity update, the host complies. They are also told in real time how the sales are going based on the host's presentation. Their only job is to sell as much merchandise as possible.

IMO no vendors necessary for most items especially clothing. As an example what real value does SG or LG bring? Presentations of one item goes on and on because of the constant talking over each other by host and vendor and sillyness. Who can't demonstrate a vacuum cleaner or a handbag? Beauty products are best sold by demonstrations so professional vendors bring value. I like one l host.
One thing I noticed about vendors on the phone is that there is a lot less over talking. That being said, I agree that in most cases, both a host and vendor are not needed.

Yes, David has a pleasant congenial personality and seems like a nice guy, he has a big following which helps make the sales..... But his "routine" has gotten tiresome, and with limited products available for presentations its gotten more and more pronounced and boring....I'm not meaning to diss David as a person....

There are a FEW vendors I do like---these are the ones that had a part in the actual manufacturing and/or product design---Martha Stewart, Jim Shore, & Valerie Parr Hill to name a few.... And then there are vendors that are somewhat disingenuous like the Dyson Rep who said the cordless Dyson could run for an hour, she even put a clock on it.....But what she didnt say was that was on the lowest setting and certain types of floors when consumer reviews mentioned it ran for 7 to 30 minutes on the HIGH setting if it was a pretty clean carpet.(some comments on this Forum mentioned 7 minutes as well)..thats a BIG difference....the host just went along with what the vendor said.....and I dont think if the presentation was solo that a host would risk their job over purposely misrepresenting a vacuum....Yep, some items should be demonstrated alone and others require a competent vendor!.....

@mspatmac Especially SG....If you have seen her once that is all you need. She says the same thing over and over again.
--------------------
I tried to watch her yesterday and today, but I just can't!! Thought maybe, not being on the actual set would be different. But she just doesn't stop talking!! She says the same thing about every item and interrupts the host too often.
I used make it a point of watching her shows and ordered her clothing quite often, but have stopped watching and buying...

Yes, the producers tells the host to give updates on sales and which colors are more limited, David I noticed gave the total quantity sold for the day, but he was the FIRST to ask the producer how much in his show.......I read an interview where QVC and hosts confirmed that the hosts arent paid commission, they are paid a salary but do get bonuses and salary raises based on performance....
