Last night I switched to HSN. I do not know the host's name, but he was the gentleman with the British accent. He was explaining the need to buy now for Christmas rather than waiting. He explained they were told in a staff meeting that the items customers want may not be available for those who wait to shop. He went on to say that this is not a sales gimmick but what is expected to happen.

It's being reported everywhere on the news, so those who wait will only have themselves to blame, if they don't get what they want, when they want it.
But you know there will be those who still don't believe it!

Inciting fear and panic is the new norm.
After all, you might be caught without those mini flashlights for your gift closet!😉
This year will be cash gifts and some food items.
We're good with empty gift closets devoid of MIC gifts.

That's all it is fear. They don't intimidate me

On the news the other night they showed a large number of cargo ships stalled on both coasts waiting to unload. It was reported the problem was lack of staff on the docks to unload. If this is the case then what we ordered may be "out to sea" biding their time.

QVC hosts have been echoing this in nearly every show as well. It's all over the news.
More and more, my shopping on other retail sites have this actually written on their websites.
Those who do not want to change their shopping timeframes this year -- don't. Just don't start threads that QVC/HSN ruined your Christmas with abominable shipping delays. Although I know that's too much to ask -- those threads will still, incredibly, be posted in droves.

While a good portion of this could be true, I got the same story when pricing new doors for my house.
"Six month wait!" "Price increases coming!" And this contractor wanted 2X the quote I had already gotten.
I got the doors installed in a month. Exact same doors. i know my doors and I very specifically requested this manufacturer from the contractor who installed them (he deals in several different brands). The 2X the cost contractor specified this same door with no input from me.
The doors are expensive any way you slice it but one of these contractors was price gouging, IMO.
I'll heed the heads up and be wise in my purchases. Thank you for the insight.

We recently painted the interior of our home. Got three quotes: 1. $3800 from a company I used twice before. 2. $4000 from a new guy. 3. Over $12,000 from another well known company in my area. The lady with the highest quote said if I agree then and now, she'll cut it to $9000 and change. I do believe there is trouble getting goods, most goods, but I also believe that some companies use this to raise prices.

I don't consider it instilling "fear and panic". I consider it being informed.
Those who claim it's a fear tactic would be the first to be outraged, if they weren't told and were left to find out too late to be proactive.
I'm certainly not panic buying anything; but I will make sure that I buy what I need in plenty of time.
