I just came home from the post office. I rarely mail packages so today was an eye opener. I decided to mail my granddaughter who is in her first year of college  a little package for Halloween. In a small box I enclosed a small porcelain ghost figurine that cost me $5.00 in Marshall's. Decided to add a very small bag of candy. Used peanuts to protect and they weigh nothing. Package weighed 1lb. 6 ozs. Package was going from NJ to Virginia. Cheapest way was $10.50.  Being a grandmother I mailed it but I will never again complain about paying $3.50 for clothing which sometimes travels across country to me.

I hear you, @Catch71 .  I mailed a dress to my 7 year old great niece for her birthday this summer.  They only live about 20 minutes away but it's a big deal to get something in the mail when you are 7.  That cost $8.

People who never go to the post office (or UPS, FedEx) to mail something don't realize how costs have soared.

It's why $3.50 for a small item from QVC, is a bargain.  Yes, if you return something because you didn't like it, you pay the $6.95 shipping, but that still only brings it up to what you would've paid to ship it one way to begin with.

Free shipping days are a real bonus!

Last Christmas, I mailed three light boxes/envelopes.  It was over $30.  Two were in state, and one went to NC from PA.  So although I want free shipping here, 3.50 is still a big bargain.

And to add insult to injury, their customer service leaves a lot to be desired..... at least in my neck of the woods.

@Catch71

I agree 1000%!

We have a deal here at the Q for shipping.  Must say those ship free flash events were fun on the weekend too Smiley Happy.

If there's no urgency, I've always mailed my packages parcel post which is a lot cheaper than first class.  You can still insure them and they arrive within a week.

I was on Barefoot Dreams website over the weekend. Put a pair of gloves in my cart, $24.00. The S&H was: $18.17!!!!! R U kidding me?

No one answers the phone or 'live chat'. They don't return email. Not in on weekends. Strange. Maybe they are going out of business? They should just sell on QVC and Nordstrom. Prefer Nordstrom. They have free s&h and are nice to deal with.

@Catch71 , it is bad here in Canada too.  My brother forgot his toothbrush charger after a visit.  I mailed it to him...$20...not kidding.  I nearly fainted when she told me the price!
