Shipping UPS on multiple item purchase.

I ordered 3 pedal pushers - same item #, different colors - all in the same order to the same address. My status gives me 3 unique (different) UPS tracking numbers. Then I bought 2 garden hats - same item # - different colors - to same address... both are using the same - UPS tracking number. There must be a reason for this - I just haven't figured it out yet.
