I've already posted on this, but I would not have chuckled at "Gentile"--I think it's complete ignorance.

I prefer to give her the benefit of the doubt that she just messed up on the pronunciation.

But then, I taught English grammar and vocabulary to adult students for more years than I care to say Wink, so I had to develop tolerance for all sorts of quirks, as well as for what was often a profound lack of knowledge, if I were to have any chance of success with them.

I save my non-chuckling for more serious utterances.

Again, sheets cannot be genteel. They are inanimate objects.
