Re: Second Quarter Not Good Guys

Love Zulily.  I have traded off QVC for Zulily.

1.  Free shipping after first order of the day or weekend

2.  Amazing customer service.  Often answers phone is just 2 rings

3.  Customer Service solves any problem immediately.

4.  Items fairly priced and to my taste WONDERFUL.

I cannot imagine why they got rid of it.  They should have figured out it was a better way to treat customers.

Re: Second Quarter Not Good Guys

Zulily was a complete losing acquisition for Qurate and a drain on operations with revenue declines quarter after quarter after quarter.

Hopefully it is better suited to the new ownership who can turn it around.

Other take-aways from the Investor call:

  • The summer shows (6-weeks on Thursday night, May - July,  Sizzling Summer) featuring Rick & Shawn was a success, and they are doing a similar show with those two hosts for the Fall, launching this month.

  • A 5-week series with David (May & June) -- In the Afternoon with David, also a success.

  • Launching more limited series based on those two successes.

  • Average overall spend per customer at QxH increased 6%.

  • Existing customers are a little more than half of QxH's customers, but accounted for nearly 90% of shipped sales.

  • Existing customers increased their average spend to more than $1,500, the highest average spend since QxH was formed.  Retention rate for existing customers is 87%.

  • At QVC alone, best customer =  defined as those who purchase 20 or more items in a year. They are 18% of QXH's total count and 75% of total sales.

  • Still vastly underperforming on gaining new customers.

  • Also at QVC, conducting a pilot for engagement: mailing beauty samples to prospective customers, mailing letters from certain hosts, calls to reduce churn, etc.

  • Opened a new fulfillment center in Arizona in June.

  • Softness in classic apparel and swimwear, but partially offset by the strength of denim and dresses.

Performance of HSN vs. QVC:  HSN lags QVC with inventory and financial margins.

@bonnielu   I'm also very happy shopping at Zulily and will continue to do so.  But I feel it's very structure, different from a lot of retail, was a financial burden for Qurate.  It lost revenue year after year.  Qurate finally did the right thing by getting rid of it.  Hopefully Zulily will thrive under their new ownership's business model.

@Caaareful Shopper  I found that the shows you mentioned that were successful are shows I'd never watch with hosts I'd never watch. I guess that shows that these hosts must be popular with regular viewers. Each to their own. None are my cup of tea. Ever

Re: Second Quarter Not Good Guys

Now we know why prices keep increasing, QVC is milking their steady customer base to recoup other costs-----dangerous and very short sighted.

@Caaareful Shopper     I haven't shopped at Zuilly in years.   At one time they offered some lovely linen (yes I like linen, especially good linen) from Italy.   It took over a month to receive the items.  I then again ordered a top but it didn't indicate it was from a foreign vendor, and it took 3 weeks to get delivered.   That was a turn off for me.   I don't know if that's changed now, but I've never returned to check them out.

@IMW    All companies raise prices to recoup costs

Re: Second Quarter Not Good Guys

Imagine!  A company setting prices in order to cover costs!

The simplest of business concepts.

Re: Second Quarter Not Good Guys

So the massive lay offs, selling Zulliy etc., still has not helped Qurite with their finances. Did not think it would any way. TPTB have made one poor decision after another. They will continue to perform poorly because of their management team. I do not see this corporation recovering to a financially stable one.
