Roberta’s Amaryllis Bulb Question

Just received my amaryllis bulb.
Question: Is bulb supposed to have green growth on top? Watched presentation video on QVC app and my bulb didn't look healthy like ones presented.
This is my first time trying their bulbs.
Thsnks!

Re: Roberta’s Amaryllis Bulb Question

Just  follow directions to the letter. Don't  over water  or the bulb will rot.  After time a new green sten will form out of the old top

Re: Roberta’s Amaryllis Bulb Question

Anything I purchased from Roberta's was dead when delivered.  Terrible quality. If you want an Amaryllis, go to your local nursery, florist or grocery store.  Better quality.

I just bought two bulbs from Sam's Club today.  I paid a $16.98 for the two of them. They are enclosed in wax and do not require soil or water....I never had this type before. I always had the type I had to plant and water.

I looked through the boxes and all of them, had a brown dried out shaggy top with a small green leaf peeking through.

I'll enclose a picture.  I hope this helps.

Re: Roberta’s Amaryllis Bulb Question

There should be at least a glimpse of green on the bulb because it's supposed to be in the process of growing and should bloom in the next few weeks.  If there's nothing there, you might have a bad bulb.

Call and see if they can send you a new one or refund your money. They might tell you to wait it out, but then it will be too late for a Christmas bloom if it ends up not blooming.

By the way -- I bought one from Roberta's last year (for the first time) and it bloomed after Christmas.  It didn't bloom until around Valentine's Day.

Honestly, I ended up buying 2 bulbs in the red wax from Lowe's a few weeks ago.  They are healthy and growing, with lots of green poking out.  Even though Roberta's has a nice presentation with the pot and all, I liked picking out my own bulb because I could see it was healthy.  Just a thought for next time...

Re: Roberta’s Amaryllis Bulb Question

Last year my bulbs had some green but this year they were damp when I planted them & so far no green. I give these every year as gifts & everyone loved the flower last year. I’m watching them daily

Re: Roberta’s Amaryllis Bulb Question

Sometimes I have luck, sometimes not. Last year I had alot of green stems but no flowers. Trying a different brand from my Supermarket that seems to have pretty good plants to sell.

I'd wait a few days and keep it warm to see if a touch of the stem pops up? I usually purchase one that shows a  bit of a stem.

These are the best bulbs ever,  I got mine at Trader Joe's a couple years  ago. Omg, is there anything so beautiful around the Holidays like Amaryllis?
