Re: Qurate Retail Group Q2-2021 Financial Report

They refer to and depend on their "best customers" but yet QVC is the one retailer I can think of who has:

NO rewards program

NO discount coupons for best customers

NO points program

NO or LITTLE free shipping (especially on cosmetics)

So this "Best Customer" since the 1990's NEVER buys cosmetics from QVC, nor T-shirts, nor kitchenware.

And because of the above I expect many of us will be drifting toward other retailers as money becomes tighter with inflation.

The transcript captured David Rawlinson's, current President and CEO-elect:

Shopping has been forever changed by the pandemic and Qurate's brands have the international scale, customer affinity and expertise in driving demand across multiple platforms to take advantage of this new world. I believe that providing a deep personal enriched shopping experience is only gaining importance in a commoditizing and more digital world.

We have the opportunity to take an energized team and building on our decades of expertise and investment, further accelerate our transition as a leading entertainer and retailer, one of the Qurate's truly unique products and creates engaging experiences for growing audience that desires it."

@Caaareful Shopper   I'm reading a lot of BS here. "Leading entertainer", really? I don't agree with an "enriched shopping experience" either. I think it's a blatent attempt to "capture" a stay at home audience with higher prices, slow shipping and higher s&h charges. Nothing special  here for me.

@Shanus   LOL  It's entirely a concept of "entertaining in the eye of the beholder."

This has been QVC's mission for many, many years.  Successful at it?  That's subjective and depends who you ask.

When have they ever followed the department store blueprint of sales as just the specifications and price?   There are more and more separate social media groups (FB, Insta, Youtube, etc.) dedicated to their love of all things QVC.  Some of them are real eye-openers!

@Shanus Yes, the emphasis is on entertainment, social media, and not products and shipping and improvement thereof.

I don't think in the near future handbags are coming back.  I don't see that at all.  And cosmetics?  Look at what people are talking about now--drugstore buys.

And me, if I buy dept store brands, Nordstroms and Neiman Marcus have free quick shipping, easy and timely returns too along with great variety and specials.

Re: Qurate Retail Group Q2-2021 Financial Report

@Sooner I'm with you. I certainly am not spending a lot of $ on cosmetics. I bought a couple of pairs of sneakers from Q because they have a brand that I like that most of the time fits me and I wore sneakers out walking when I was home during the pandemic.

I'm not really into what they consider "entertaining". If I like the host and the products they are showing, I watch. If I don't, then I tune into another channel. Personally I find the personal stories from the hosts less than exciting. If I want to live vicariously, I'll watch Downton Abbey or read a book.

I'll admit that I enjoyed the Harvest decor shows a lot more than I do the Christmas in July shows since I like decorating for fall a lot more than for Christmas. I have all the Christmas decor I need and we have cut way back on gift giving so there's not a lot of reason to buy.

I also buy from places that offer discounts - as in REAL sales - not QVCs faux sales and free shipping.

Re: Qurate Retail Group Q2-2021 Financial Report

Also, what about "Q"?  I have bought Denim and Co. pants since the 1990's and always been happy.  I bought four pair recently and sent back four pair.  They were crummy, scratchy, thin, poor quality cheap material.

What do they think about the "Q" in QVC?

They also seem to be creating (and pushing) more of their 'QVC exclusive' in-house brands.  As well as name brands that make certain products for QVC alone.

Of course, most other retailers seem to be heading this way too.

Re: Qurate Retail Group Q2-2021 Financial Report

Although I feel as if the main purpose of lots of the posts in this thread is to persuade shoppers to buy elsewhere, I have to say that as with so many purchases of any sort we make it pays to know yourselves and to shop carefully.

I had read on another thread that Ulta now sells PTR products, so I went looking because I bought their Retinol TSV on auto-delivery a few months back.  I paid 110.84 total for 8.7 ounces of product.  Ulta wants $65+my 4.55 tax for one ounce.  No matter their free shipping, no matter their coupons, and even no matter there's a clean Ulta b&m near me, QVC is about $500.00 ahead on just that one product. Assuming I buy the next AD shipment from QVC and Ulta is still asking 65+, I will have purchased over 15 ounces of product for about $1000.00 less than I would have paid Ulta for the same.

Do I actually need so much Retinol?  Probably not, but I know over time, I would often use 2 of those ounces.  Cost at Ulta for less than a third of what QVC sold me is already more than I paid QVC to send it directly to my mail!  At Ulta because I am not spending enough for free shipping, I would have to buy something I don't want or need or make a little trip.  Can't think of a single reason to do that!

@Shanus

Agree 100%  Leading Entertainer?  It's been talked about over and over on these boards which host is unwatchable, of course that list changes with personal preference but it's clear it's not the QVC that you could enjoy and keep in the background as before.

There's always online but if you want a detailed look at a product presented live but it is unwatchable, there goes the entertainment....and the sale.

Extremely interesting thread. Great comments.

One thing I took away from the teleconference....the "best customer" was always referred to as "she".....noteable from corporate guys......
