I thought our cable company had stopped broadcasting in analog a long time ago.  I remember the big fits people were having about it.  Well I guess they didn't follow through because lo and behold, I received a letter from my cable company yesterday.

It said that they were no longer going to be broadcasting 2 channels in analog (Local weather channel and Telemundo) and that they would be broadcast beginning Nov. 15 in digital format only.

I'm not sure how everyone's cable/satellite works but our has the channels broken out.  Starting with 1003 and up are all HD channels.  3 digit channels were all digital and 2 and 1 digit channels were all analog.

Last year they changed the way they broadcast and now every channel is HD if it can be in HD, regardless of what number you are on.  So for example, E! is 1208 and 208. Both are now HD where before, just 1208 was HD and 208 was digital.

My cable company warned us several months ago and Oct 4th was "d day" (digital day)....if you don't have a box the only thing you can get on analog is local channels (CBS,ABC,NBC,PBS)---

I already had a box for the TV in the living room......I have an old TV in my bedroom that I rarely even turn on....it is so old it has a VHS player built in so I use it to watch old movies (from the 30's/40's) that haven't been converted to DVD yet.....but I am not going to pay $5 a month extra to hook that TV up to digital....

I can't believe with the Q sales down they opted to do this at this time, especially when HSN is STILL analog! I look at this as a "blessing", I have been trying (sucessfully) I might add to distance myself from buying from QVC, now it will just make that much easier. I have digital boxes in two rooms and I have seven tv's, so it will be that much harder to watch the Q. I have been a customer for over twenty years and have spent my fair share but when the new shipping when into effect that started me on a program to not buy as much, this new removal of analog will really help mu budget, THANK YOU QVC!!!

It also helped when Evine went digital, boy have I saved a ton of money there too.

You apparently misunderstand.  This is not QVC doing his, this is he cable provider.  This will eventually happen to all analog channels.

The swith to digial allows for more badnwidth on the system for additional channels (one analog channel takes up as much bandwidth as q10 digital channels), telephone service, and faster internet speeds.  It also cuts down on cable theft.

Having worked in the cable industry for more than a decade, I know this is not the issue of implementing a change to make more money.  It is necessary in order to provide enhanced services that people want (e.g. faster internet, VOD services,. DVR services, more channels).

What i find both appalling an isappointing is that people here immediately jumped on QVC, making assumptions and drawing conclusions ,without taking the time to even look into the facts.

@KYToby  Since you worked in the cable industry perhaps you can answer a question for me---why are some the channels choppy or blocky with digital and even on the HD channels---with analog we never had a problem.... I have a brand new TV and a box that's pretty new....and even friends on a different cable company have this problem....will converting everything to digital help to correct this....?????  Just curious.....Sometimes newer electronics (i.e. see Samsung exploding phones, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and now Wiindows 10) aren't necessarily better than older technology...you may get new features, but sometimes they don't work properly....
