If corporations didn't get tax breaks, there would be a lot less charity from the private sector.

As for the 70 percent thing -- if you want 100 percent of your personal donation to go directly to the charity, go to the charity.

Note that even the most efficiently run non-profits have overhead. They have rent, equipment, employee salaries, etc. There are sites you can visit that can tell you how these charities manage their money. Some are better than ithers.
