Re: Q DID WHAT? WEEKEND PREVIEW-DOG DAYS OF SUMMER!

SPURT, back in 1993, one of my black Labs, Katie, had to have her ACL repaired, it was $400 which was a lot of money for me back then (still is), my former boss just had it done on one of her dogs and it was.....$4000!!! Same vet, too.  My horse who died in April had surgery at Univ. of GA 10 years ago and it was $3000 (thank you, Mom!), which is a LOT of money, but think about it - that was for a horse, a big animal, and he was in there for 10 days after surgery.  Compare that to what my former boss paid for surgery on a small dog;  even though it is 10 years later, I don't think my horse's surgery would have been $6K or more if was done now.  Sometimes it is a little less "expensive" at a teaching hospital. But my vets don't like to hear that I took one of my stray cats to a local spay/neuter clinic when they were offering free neutering and vaccinations for people in my area (very rural and mostly poor) through a PetSmart Charities program.

Re:  retirement, I just read an article about how happy many people are who retire.  All my friends who have retired from the University are very happy and content.  So, 2 years. 10 months and 29 days, but who's counting!

@katiescarlett  KATIE, that was very expensive, but like you said a horse is a big animal and the 10 days he had to stay in the hospital is a lot of days, so I can understand why they would charge that much for a horse.  Same thing for a dog specialist which may be something that all vets don't know how to do..  My friend's stepmom had an Irish Setter and he had heart problems and the heart surgery cost her around $3000 too.....but that ACL surgery on that dog was quite a difference in price!!! YIKES!!!!  I don't know why the discrepancy.....just like the spaying....Puddin didn't go to one of the shelters that give low or no cost spaying and vaccinations,(there's a huge waiting list for the spaying/neutering--a friend did that).... Puddin went to a very nice  regular Animal Hospital Clinic and combination Pet Resort and they even treat small animals like hamsters and squirrels too....LOL!!!  And I'm not sure where I'm going to take my cats for their upcoming annual vaccinations and now pets have to be microchipped by law too.....I just think that Vital Pet is a bunch as BS.....  But I do like Dr. Z he is very caring and really loves the animals.

And my friends that retired love retirement, but one got kinda bored and talks to her connections and works once in a while a couple days a week ......I have a feeling you and I wouldn't be bored....LOL!!!!

Re: Q DID WHAT? WEEKEND PREVIEW-DOG DAYS OF SUMMER!

@Spurt @stevieb ha, wow, what a massive savings that $3.12 is!  I just cancelled the order I made on July 30 for the sketchers TSV.  It has been sitting in processing since I placed the order and I checked on it again this afternoon and well I decided I was tired of waiting for them to ship.  Yes I would have liked to have them but since Q can't ship any more quickly than 5 days in process, then I'll put that $ back into my pocket instead.

I was looking at those faux acorn clips and thought they might be nice to add to my collection of fall "stuff" but the shipping and handling on a $19.92 item (gotta keep it under $20 so they can brag on it) is $5!  Why?  They are certainly NOT heavy.  The TSV lantern is larger & heavier and that is $5 for shipping!

Makes no sense to me.

Five dollar shipping on a twenty dollar bill alert... item is just ludicrous, especially when it's light weight... This is clearly one of those items that should qualify for their uber generous... three buck shipping, at most... BUT wait... we have to remember that they think that with the imminent changing of the seasons, we, the audience, will be just chomping at the bit for their short-lived fall merchandise. They would be wrong. I liked the TSV lantern, but thought it was over-priced, so skipped it. They sold a lot of them, but not to me...

Re: Q DID WHAT? WEEKEND PREVIEW-DOG DAYS OF SUMMER!

@stevieb yes, I passed on the lantern, too.  I thought it was pretty but I have other lanterns and also outdoor luminaria candles so I decided to keep my $ in my pocket so to speak.

I'll look for the acorn picks somewhere else.  I'm sure I can find them for a similar price.

I thought the lantern was really pretty, but quite narrow, regardless of the size...  And it just seemed so pricey for what it was...  Still, they pretty much sold it out, which I guess says something...  I don't have many lanterns, but don't need one that's 'indoor-outdoor' so decided I'd look around and probably find something less expensive.  It honestly seems that some folks are just unable to give up their fixation on QVC and will essentially order just about anything they offer withough comparison shopping.

Also interesting to note how they're trying to repackage their TSV's... Seems to me they have new theme music, having lost the old 'fanfare' they used to have introducing them and now they're trying to throw all sorts of accolades out there (best find of the day... and so on) and so many links from the homepage...  I rarely find the TSV even remotely interesting or desirable. We're also seeing a good bit more EP... You really have to wonder if the Q is hurting.  It wouldn't surprise me if they are, given what they've become...

And speaking of what they've become... Sunday brings us another day of computers and tablets... while Friday and Saturday bring us Q "fashions", featuring another two hour block on Saturday of Dooney and Bourke handbags...  In other words, same old... same old... again.
