hi Spurt, fun weekend update as always. I vote for Father Knows Best as my fav dad on tv.
As far as this weekend, well I watched a bit of AM style then the tv went off since I don't "do" Sat Morning Q or any of the other multi host, multi products shows. I went to the movies last night, finally caught the avengers movie. Tuned in to see Antonella at 11 p.m. I really like her but unfortunately she is saddled with some uninspired items. I have some bronzo but as a steady buying option, nope, I'll pass and shop my own jewelry box.
@GinaV24---Hi GINA
Glad you liked the update---And I am watching the Father Knows Best marathon on antenna TV as we speak.........
AM STYLE is all I can take of the Q on the weekends these days....Normally, I will switch it over to the music channel why I do a few household chores, or I head on out to run errands and/or shopping and sometimes the movies. I did tune in at 11 PM too and watched a bit of Antonella but as you pointed out it appeared to the same bronze pieces (and I'm just not a fan of bronzo jewelry) and some of the other jewelry they showed was what we've seen before--those SAME twisted earrings and Lira jewelry etc etc.....No sales here either!!!
So how did you like the movie, I haven't seen that one yet.....
Enjoy what's left of the weekend! ...

@katiescarlett wrote:I like Andy Griffith, but looking back at Leave it to Beaver, I think the Ward sometimes put down June. And I like Ricky Ricardo, bless his heart for putting up with Lucy's shenanigans!. How about the father on The Waltons? And I liked him as the father of Leroy Jethro Gibbs on NCIS. And, of course, there is Tom Selleck on Blue Bloods. The man still has "it" at age 70!
@katiescarlett ..... Hi KATIE I liked your comments about the dads---these days I think Ricky would be making an appearance on Divorce Court after all of Lucy's shenanigans!!! As for Ward I think sometimes those boys got him so aggravated by their mischief, that he took it out on everyone!!! Andy was not just a father to Opie, he was definitely a father figure and voice of reason to half the town...LOL! And I think your right, some men age not so well, but others still have "it" even in their "golden years"....
One of my very favorite episodes was when they were in California and she, Ethyl, and Fred were at the Brown Derby and saw William Holden, and she would stare at him, and then ran into the waiter who dumped the plate on Bill Holden. When Ricky brought Bill Holden by the hotel, Lucy came out with a clay nose that caught on fire when Holden lit her cigarette! Too funny. Also, the classic when they traded places and she and Ethyl worked in the candy factory, and Ricky made chicken and rice and rice was pouring out of the pot on the stove!
Yes, some men don't age so well, but some certainly do! The other night I saw Kevin Costner in Draft Day and he looked good!

Hey Spurt, so glad to find a little bit of normal in this miasma of ... well, I'm not sure what this is now. I can't find the Scrapbooking forum so I guess it is gone which makes me sad. What doesn't make me sad is your weekend preview - not just great pics, but history lessons too! Loved the LOGO kitty & the fat kitty in the yellow outfit. I have days when I feel like that :-) I have a Stein Mart very close by so I might ho see if they have a braided rug that will work for me.
Katie Scarlett, you beat me to Ralph Waite as favorite father on the Walton & NCIS & I liked Ricky Ricardo too - do you remember the episode where he told Little Ricky the story of Little Red Riding Hood in
Spanish. It was so funny!
Great weekend to be indoors this weekend so I will be watching baseball (MLB & CWS ) plus the girls, er, womens soccer. I enjoy the big tournaments the World & European Cup. Its going to be 114 degrees tomorrow! I will have to go rinse off the horse (he has a fan & mister too) & help the owner feed - she's 73 & I can't let her feed by herself in this heat - but that's as much as I want to be outside. Speaking of "as", was that a Freudian slip where you were discussing Lisa & does the new forum let us use words like "ass "?? :-D
Hey, yes, I remember that episode, but then, so many of hers are hysterical! I have it on in the morning when getting ready for work - they are on Hallmark channel early in the morning.
I feel your pain with the temperatures. It has been over 100 here for many days, more like August weather than June. And we have had no rain for three weeks, so it is extremely dry. When I left work the other day, my car said the outside temp was 116! I take the dogs for a walk about 8pm and it is not so bad in the woods once the sun goes down. I just hope a deer does not decide to run in front of me one evening because I don't think I will be able to hold on to my chocolate lab!

Katie, the Brown Derby episode is one of my all time favorite Lucy episodes too... So, so funny...

@stevieb HEY STEVIE ....errr....REBECCA----POLLY here
---your magenta font is so cheery font which totally matches the mood and tone of the forums.....why on AM STYLE they mentioned that going forward that was going to be THE COLOR for fall---you are so ON TREND my friend!!!
As for the Lollipop Guild and their rejoicing---oh yes I saw it and I did add my 2 cents along with yours and others----I am contemplating whether I will stick it out too......I do like the fact you can still edit a post after a reply is posted....and at least the system removes the photo that does not meet the HTML specifications (I used to spend a long term searching for a photo that wouldn't let me post the Weekend Preview--sometimes it was the url of the photo when letters were side by side and strung together that formed an offensive word---but the old format didn't give you a clue....BUT the rest of the new Forum....(well one must remain positive)....
I headed out to my favorite shopping center went to Target (they did not have the Rubbermaid bins I was looking for, only the cheap ones that cracked), then ran into Lowes----and then went searching for the elusive kitchen rug---I went into JCP---didn't see some of the ones they have online---but I saw one, not braided, that might work if I was desperate, but it was way overpriced....One reason I like this shopping center it has my favorite stores all in one place---so I did go into Home Goods and they did have a nice assortment of rugs---area, bath, accent and kitchen....I did find a braided rug there, good price....but the color was all wrong---it was in pink tones, and with the blue accents in my kitchen, it would've made it look like it was a baby nursery where the parents didn't want to reveal whether they are having a boy or girl!!! Oh so close!!!!!
I was hoping to find something locally, but I may have to go the online route and will have to go back to Overstock and I keep forgetting Home Decorators too---I have purchased from them before, but since they have stop sending me their catalog I forget about their website.....Thanks for reminding me about those options....
Sorry you missed out on your dresser---but I think it was the case of a lazy manager that they didn't call other stores for you---why I was in Marshalls (and aren't they an affilated store of Homegoods)...and while I was looking around a customer was interested in a certain lamp, but she wanted two, they only had one, and the Sales Associate came back and told her she had called the other stores and they were sold out so she apologized and told her that the lamp was the last one they had---So see STEVIE there are some stores that care.....others don't and those that don't--well they don't seem to stay in business....Anyway, I hope you find a nice replacement!
Oh those Horned Frogs---how and why do the colleges chose the mascots that they do....I guess they wanted to go with a native animal of Texas-----but so many others to chose from....I actually saw one of those frogs when I was a kid.....
CONGRATS to your CAVALIERS!!!! (the Virginia kind, not the Cleveland kind, but since you say the Virgina teams don't win....maybe they need to change their name....maybe since they have the same name as the Cleveland variety they also contracted some of the "Cleveland curse"....poor Cleveland none of their sports teams seem to win either)....Anyway, GOOD LUCK to your Virginia team (and I hope I didn't jinx them )......
Enjoy the remaining hours of your weekend.....I'll think I'll whistle....
Now I'm walking on sunshine, whoa
I'm walking on sunshine, whoa
I'm walking on sunshine, whoa
And don't it feel good
Hey, all right now
And don't it feel good
Hey, yeah
Rebecca here... Betcha by golly wow, but it's a wonderful, wonderful day, just sa dern wonderful... and welcome, Spurt, to my response to your wonderful response to my post on this wonderful day and on this wonderful thread... Everything is just sa dern, well, wonderful... just so dog-gone good here in BonBonville...
I actually think that little horned frog is kinda cute...
Despite the mentality being pursued... such as it is... I'm seeing some positives to the new boards, but do miss many aspects of the old ones... I do find it more of a challenge to simply copy and paste pictures, but don't do so very often anyway... I find the 'explanations' for why posts are poofed (and yes, they ARE still poofed) sort of pointless, since there's no mechanism to know what was said and why it was 'offensive', 'confrontational', 'unkind', 'argumentative', 'baiting', or so on and on and on...
Good luck finding your rug... I am finding braideds, but not at prices I want to pay... so I guess, for now, I'll do without... I just can't believe how expensive everything seems to have become... As for my dresser, I suppose I could have simply asked them to check stock at other local stores but, well, first... they should have offered. The store was not that busy... and in addition, I suppose I just consider it a savings for something that I probably can do without... They tend to get similar dressers in from time to time, but I loved the color of this one and the price was really very reasonable... Moreover, unlike some pieces of furniture they often offer, there were no obvious flaws: no chips in the wood... all the drawers opened and closed properly... and so on... We'll see. I might get adventurous and go looking. And of course, odds are that'll it'll be a cold day in BonBonville before they get another, now that I've decided I want one...
As for me, I ran a few errands on Saturday: returned some things to DSW, went to Petsmart and picked up a few things at the smaller local grocery and that was it for me... Spent some time at the pool both Saturday and Sunday and might head out there for an hour or so today... I don't really want to, but the forecast... is for sunny, hot but less humid weather for today and then the clouds and rain appear to move in for the duration... I have a lot to do to try to straighten up this mess of a house, but I suppose the rest of the week, if the forecast holds, would work just as well as today... Of course, the truth is that laying at the pool in the sun and heat sort of saps all of one's energy and I really have no great desire to go today, but see that it might be my only opportunity for the foreseeable future...
As for my boys, well, I wish them all the luck in the world and I suppose they could pull it off, but it's going to be hard... The competition is pretty significant but I would so love to see Virginia win a championship in something... Football is out of the question and not likely to get any better, since they never seem able to find a significant coach... Basketball, well, they peaked too early and then folded too early in the tournament and, of course, unlike the eventual champion Puke (don't like them.. or their deified coach), they never seem to catch a break when it comes time to determine brackets... Then last year, in baseball, they were at the top of the heap almost all season and picked to win, but lost in the last game by one stinking run, so really, they are due... And speaking of sports, (and yes, I know, such discussion should probably be more minimal than I'm keeping it in this instance, but oh well, where IS the sports forum anyway... Oh, that's right, under 'wellness'...) it'll be interesting to see what comes of Mister Brady's appeal... And that's all I'm saying, here in BonBonville... And I'd be winking here, but my gosh I wish they'd import some decent emoticons!! Oh, lest I forget, Virginia is one of those schools that actually has a formal nickname (the Cavaliers) but also has an informal nickname (the Wahoos or Hoos) and until recently the preferred one was actually the informal one... I guess TPTB have decided that Cavaliers has more cache... And as for any comparisons to the Cleveland variety, I can only say that the Virginia moniker has been in place for quite a bit longer... In other words, we had it first... And word on the Grounds (Virginia's version of 'campus') is that the folks at Oxford liked the name and logo (the crossed sabers) so much that they adopted it... But really, I know, TMI... especially knowing of your deep and abiding love for baseball!
Have a great week! And, uh, stay POSITIVE... and remember, everything IS sunshine, lollipops and rainbows!!!!
And no, I won't use this color font again... I know, it's hard to read... But it did SO put me in the mind of all that's sweetness and light...

@katiescarlett Hi KATIE----that episode is HAILARIOUS when Lucy's clay nose catches fire...ROFL!!! And yes Ricky and Fred wouldn't fare very well in an episode of Master Chef---too funny. JMHO but sitcoms aren't has funny these days.
I hope your temperatures have cooled down some and it's not so hot for you and your critters.
As for Kevin Costner....one of my friends watched DRAFT DAY with her DH and she's now become a fullfledged NFL draftnick thanks to Kevin Costner Some guys still got it and look mighty "distinquished" with some gray... I still need to see that movie.

@stevieb Hey STEVIE----POLLY here!!!
As for college mascots it can be a tad confusing .......kinda like Alabama with the Crimson Tide, yet their mascot is an elephant---say what???? So I hope they sort it all out with your Virginia Cavaliers and their official and unofficial mascots and all...LOL!!! And as cute as the horned frog is, they have a nasty habit of defending themselves by squirting blood out of their eyes....YUUUCK!!!! So what happened in the CWS?
Our weather morons mentioned that some nasty storms came your way, but of course didn't elaborate, instead they spend half the forecast reliving what our weather was the previous 6 hours.....as we already know, they have a problem predicting FUTURE forecasts so I understand the emphasis on what has already passed!!! Anyway, hope your didn't get hit hard by the weather and you and Nick are safe and sound!!!!
Sounds like you had a busy weekend. Glad at least you got some pool time in Saturday & Sunday---and yes, I concur, the heat will certainly zap your strength---a neighbor and I went walking in a green belt a little way from our homes near dusk and we came back absolutely DRENCHED in sweat!!!! My DS said we should have gone in the morning, but an early morning walk in the heat and humidity would have left me totally drained for the entire day!!!! At least at dusk you came home take a nice refreshing shower and relax for the rest of your evening.....and isn't Sunday evening TV dreadful....I will be so happy when football is back!!!! Speaking of which---I see you also caught Tommy looking spiffy in his suit ready to begin the re-investigation of Deflate Gate....I mean come on why didn't you cooperate during the initial investigation, and if your guilty fess up!!!---now sports news will be DOMINATED by this story and nothing else!!!!---"Thanks" Tommy!!!
As for your dresser, well keep checking back you never know, maybe they will have something even better and ON SALE too!!!
I did take a peek at that new DY site the people seem okay, but the format seems a bit primitive (didn't register) and as for PTV....something about the atmosphere not to my taste....so not sure yet what I will do with this "brave new world"
Oh I just got a lovely pop up from the Q inviting me to get emails on CIJ and all the wonderful merchandise that they have in store---toys, decor, Temp-Tations, VPH----I'm sure all our favorites will be in attendance!!! (Putting on my Pollyanna smile)....."It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day in the neighborhood....." May sparkles and sunshine head your way.......
Have a good week!

Hey SPURT, how about our mascot, the Gamecocks! a chicken...haha.
You know, re: Kevin Costner, I loved him in Dancing With Wolves - a man like that who can ride a horse and ride it well, just does something to me.....
And I agree sitcoms just are not as funny. Rarely do they make me laugh out loud like Lucy or even Golden Girls. I would say that Big Bang Theory does because of my work at a University with scientists, not physicists, but biologists and ecologists. And they are not into action figures, but the stories about tenure, office space, and grants and research ring VERY true! And Miyam is a Ph.D. in neuroscience in real life.

@katiescarlett LOL.....yes your mascot a chicken......
Oh but there are worse----look at these---
Mr. Okra -Delta State
The Fighting Pickle-UNC School Of The Arts
Cobber (he's a mean ear of corn) --Concordia College
Sammy the Slug--UC Santa Cruz
The Boll Weevil-Univ of Arkansas At Monticello
Trinity College Trolls
Akron Zips (Zippy the Kangaroo is the Mascot)
Scottsdale Community Fighting Artichoke
And I also laugh out loud at the older sitcomes....I have never watched The Big Bang Theory, there must be something else on the other channels when it comes on that I watch.....
