Re: Pronunciation

[ Edited ]

What bothers me is mispronouncing a word by giving it another prefix because the person really doesn't know the word.  Like Pre-nunciation instead of Pro-nunciation and I've been hearing a lot of mispronunciations due to not really knowing the correct prefix (or is that pro-fix??). and being mispronounced or changed and used long enough it becomes word of choice and Websters decides to make it an alternative.  That's how the language permanently changes.....

@Q4u

When I hear what you've described, (and it's said by someone I can question) it always turns out to be they've heard the word used many times, but have never seen it written.

These are non-readers. If asked, they can't "picture" the word in question.

And they're likely repeating the word as another non-reader pronounces it.

Some people say bagels (paper bags) and some say ruuf.

@Gkhm  We have a young news announcer that does the same . I heard her yesterday with" Kittens" as shelter could take them due to a contagious  disease. No "T"

@Mombo1  Hi Mombo1.  About a year ago (more or less), there was another thread about pronunciations and I think it was you that had made a brief mention of Pittsburgh Dad.  Intrigued by the name, I Iooked up Pittsburgh Dad, and have since spent many hours so enjoying the work of Curt Wootton and Chris Preksta.  THANK YOU!

@QVCisFun    Yes that was me.  My brother still lives in the Pittsburgh area and we always laugh about Pittsburgh Dad.  He is so entertaining.   I also have a good friend who lives there who sounds exactly like Pittsburgh Dad and his wife's name is Deb.  So if you have watched the videos you know what I mean.   🤗

Ok, I'm slow today.

I'm still not getting this "ruuf".

It's that a synonym for bagel?

I've never heard that.

I have no problems with Amy and ANY of the things you mentioned.

Disagree completely.
