Please don't call me 'honey'

Why does Jane find it ok to call David 'honey'....I'd be offended if a man called me that in a professional setting so why would it be ok the other way around?

I know I'm overly sensitive right now...my sis is critical and on life support and I'm heading to the hospital to spend the day with her so bear with me on this.
