Re: Please Quit With the Side Pockets

Another vote FOR pockets! Beyond a tissue, I usually need one for a phone in the event I don't want to carry a purse.

I much prefer to have pockets!  Side or otherwise!  And yes, I do carry a tissue around all the time.

Re: Please Quit With the Side Pockets

@Jacie - What a surprisingly, very interesting post. So many of us have varied opinions on pockets. I guess I am not interested in pockets unless they are on a blazer, jacket, a coat, or a Chanel style of cardigan. I don't look for pockets on dresses or on skirts, or on shirts, or blouses, or tunics.

We all have different likes and needs from the plethora of responses to your thread. I carry a handbag with me outside at all times, which is the size of a small valise (LOL), so I don't need pockets on my clothing, generally speaking.

@Jacie

I've mentioned this before, but it bears repeating ....

Several years ago, my employer brought in the Beverly Hills Police Dept to give a lecture on women's safety and self-defense.  (Two women had recently been mugged in a "safe" parking structure).

One of the most surprising comments they made was to NEVER put your car keys in your handbag.   Ever.  Put them in your POCKET.

Too many women were carrying those handbags with two straps, using the short handles and letting the shoulder strap dangle.

They called those bags a purse-snatcher's favorite handbag.

Here's why ...

if you're carrying a handbag in the crook of your elbow, and the other strap dangles, you are setting yourself up.  A purse snatcher could run up behind you and shove you to the ground.  You would push out your arms to block your fall to the ground.  The snatcher could grab your long strap of your bag and run like crazy.

By the time you got to your feet, they were on the next block and not only did they have your wallet and phone with all your info, but also your car keys!  They could immediately drive to your home and access it before you've even given the police your statement.

If this happened and you had your keys in your pocket, at least you could drive home and call your credit card companes, etc, to report stolen cards.

It's NEVER  a good idea to have your wallet, phone and keys all in one place.

Yes, this is a long reply, but I always want to pass this on to women.

And THAT is why I always need a garment with pockets.

If you don't want them, buy something else.

Love side pockets! Very handy and a quick, easy place to grab my keys or Kleenix, etc.

I like pockets in most things.  However, I do prefer to not open their seams (like in blazers) for a sleeker look sometimes.😃❤️

Re: Please Quit With the Side Pockets

I dont buy unless jackets, pants, jeans and some sweaters have pockets.  There is a little something for everyone.  To ask designers to quit making something because you dont want it is absurd.  Ask them for more choices without pockets.

Re: Please Quit With the Side Pockets

For me, I can't stand designers putting pockets in all the pants esp loungewear pants. Pockets look horrible (IMO) on dresses and dressier pants. If you are at work or a nicer event, are you really bulging your pockets out by putting stuff in them? Highly doubt it. I"m also tired of the hosts and vendors acting like they can't even walk around their houses without being attached to their phones and needing a place to put them in their PJ's. Often, I'm interested in a piece of clothing and as soon as I see the pockets, I'm out. On JEANS or something like that, yes, but most other things it's a NO BUY for myself.

Re: Please Quit With the Side Pockets

I don't care for pockets myself.  Never use them.  I have a very short torso and they always seem to fall in the wrong place.

Having said that....I would never expect any clothing line to 'quit' anything just because it is not my preference.

I'm pretty sure I am not the only one they are designing for!
