I have never thought they were flattering for a lot of women. If you are fuller in the hip/ upper thigh area the peplum hem cuts right across that area and brings the eye right to

your heaviest area.

True but you can say that about any style of clothing.  What looks good on one body type will not be for another.

There is no cut like a peplum to make everyone ask if you're pregnant—that has happened to probably a dozen women I know (I think the style is strange so I've avoided such situations). Obviously, people should be more thoughtful before posing that question, but, well, they just aren't.  Smiley Wink

I am "extra" SHORT.  I need something with a straight vertical line to give an illusion of height

And speaking of fashion: I see a lot of women in tights that are too tight and show body parts that are too large. Why?

I never really paid attention to what others wear.... unless it was nice and something I'd like to have. To each their own.

@ellaphant   I'm a straight up and down rectangle with a petite frame. The peplums always hit in a strange place...even petite sizes. I can't wear anything "babydoll" either.

I wear the peplum style well.  I have an hour glass shape.  I have a small waist compared to my hips and love to wear high waisted pants with shorter peplum tops and jackets.

I have never had a peplum top that was long enough to reach my lower hips or thighs.  I don't wear longer tops in any style.

I have one peplum jacket which I like a lot.  Depends on how it is cut.  Some have a soft drape.  Have to agree, two hosts recently didn't look their best.

Re: Peplum tops

[ Edited ]

I just bought a Susan Graver blouse with the peplum that I am very happy with.  I usually buy a petite XL but this didn't come in petite.  I will have to shorten the sleeves and perhaps take them in a little but the waist of the peplum hits me just right.  I am planning to wear it to dinner with black pants on a winter trip.
